Ok, I record my band with a Tascam 424MKIII, and use 4 mics. 1 for bass, 1 , for each guitar, and 1 (overhead) for drums. Well, beleive it or not, it comes out great. However, when I mixdown on my computer (2002 HP Pavilion), onto CD, the low end (Bass, Low frequencies) are hard to hear over everything else. What am I doing wrong?

munson curve states that bass frequnces must be twice the volume of highs/mids to be heard/felt. like the dude ubove me said, get some better monitors... or mix down on what you're gonna be listening to it on.

If you've got a less-than-stellar monitoring set up you'll likely be guessing at the low end. I've been in your situation in the past and the only thing that I found to work is making rough mixes and listening to them through lots of different systems. Try your car, headphones, your home stereo, computer, etc. This is, of course, assuming that you actually have some low end in the tracks to start with and the sound card in your computer doesn't totally suck...

Clean up the low frequency in the tracks without bass. You probably have a lot of low level grunge that is masking the bass.
