now ive been wondering for awhile who plays what in the big music world, and im talking about whole set up; guitars, amps, effects..the works...so this is my list of people that i wanna know what they play...

Shavo Odadjian, SOAD *say that name ten times fast*

Roger Waters, pink floyd

Matt Freeman, rancid

thats all i can think of right now, i might think of more later...

"Roger Waters, pink floyd "
Do you mean David Gilmore? I think he played a strat through a hiwatt with the most expensive compressor money could buy in between.

Waters is primarily a bass player, although he plays keys and probably other stuff also.

Shavo is also a bass player as far as i know... Malakian is the guitarist of SOAD. So maybe he wants to know what bass equipment they use?

lol yeah...that......its like 12am and im a little...um....yeah so im not quite sure what im saying

freak

LOL i just realized i had skipped over your name too =\, we're all alittle tired i guess =)

ohhhkay....

Waters played P-basses and jazz basses when he was in floyd. when I saw him live, I swear that I saw some Ampeg and SWR cabs.

Matt Freeman, I think he uses a Stingray and an Ampeg amp rig.

Shavo, i knew he used ibanez basses since he was endorsed by them, but on the tracks, i personally think they sound like warwicks, and for amps i have no idea.

hey thanks

i was just trying to figure out what they are using and trying to figure out if i can get mine to sound like that lol

glad to help out. sorry, i can't be of more assistance. -thecongo

Waters rig was pretty basic and like most musicians who have been around forever the equipment the changes. The Dec 1992 Musician mag gave is rig at that time as:

Fender Precision Bass with Rotosounds
200-watt Hiwatt amps and Purpose-built cabs with woofers on the bottom and mid-range horns on top.

Any specific song by Waters/Floyd?

Doh!

how typically guitarist of me.

yeah i was shooting for the sound he had on the dark side of the moon album.

if ive said it once ive said it a million times, p-bass for life

Damn, I was hoping you'd say One Of These Days. The Dark Side probaby used a 60's Fender P-bass. Most guitarists rave about the vibe the early-mid 60's guitars give. I've never played one. I would think a P-bass is a lot cheaper than a strat or tele from that time though. So get an all-original 62 P-bass sunburst finish in good shape. I would say there were Hi-Watt amps and probably a lot of DI into what Doug H said, " the most expensive compressor money could buy". Include Fairchild Limiters, Neve mixing desk (spelling is probably wrong) and all the other great equipment found at Abbey Road in 1972. I think the studio equipment is what's key here combined with great tech help and a typical PF obsession with the best sound quality possible at that time. Sorry I wasn't any more help.

i think im chasing a hopeless cuase trying to get my bass to sound like that, seeing as they did always have the cutting edge in sound. but, i dont mind, ill just play money and pretend like im waters lol.

i just need to get a job and start buying more stuff...it sucks living in your parents basement and having no money...

I believe Matt Freeman plays Fender basses (Jazz and P-bass) and is endorsed by gallien krueger. I don't hear many effects in his playing, just a compressor/limiter (very well could be onboard the amp) to give a lot of punch and "immediacy" to the tone. Then go to town with a pick. ;)

For Waters, I agree with above posts.

Ironically, I also love both players and claim inspiration by both. :)

I would like to find out David Gilmore's rig at the Pulse concert. Comfortably Numb and Coming Back Alive. Oh, and where can I buy a big disco light like that? :D:D

Thanks in advance

OK A1A2, you're in trouble now. Start with a strat (set-up tweaked to perfection by one of the best guitar techs in the world) loaded with EMG SA pups. Tone controls are EMG's SPC(mid-cut/expander) and EXG (mid-booster). Then into a Samson UHF wireless.

Then wireless goes straight into a Pete Cornish custom rack. The custom rack consists of a mindboggling signal path that includes the following:

Tuning station (including a Peterson stobe tuner, headphones, amp)
Lexicon PCM 70
Boss C5-2 Comp
MXR DynaComp
Ibanez CP-9 comp
Digitech Whammy
Boss Metalizer
Cornish Biff Muff
Chandler Tube Driver #1
Rat
Cornish Soft Sustain
Sovtek Big Muff
Chandler Tube Driver #1
Electroharmonix Electric Mistress
Univibe
Boss CE-2 Chorus (2 units)
Boss GE-7 graphic (4 units)
Alembic F2-B pre-amp
volume pedal
Steel vol pedal
MXR digital delay
TC2290 delay
lexicon PCM 70 delay

Then into:
Dynachord CL5222 Leslie Simulator
Cornish Dummy load into a Heil Voice Box
2 Custom Doppolas
5 100 watt HiWatts
4 Marshall cabs
2 WEM cabs

There's more but I'm getting tried of typing. That's his basic rig from the Pulse tour. Hope you got credit cards!

Look for the Magazine "Guitar Shop" from December 1996, I think. It has a huge article outlining his setup. (try e-bay???) The ironic thing is that when I started playing guitar and forming a band, I was big-time into Floyd. So... I thought that no matter what, my guitar rig was way to small, and our stage show was way to simple...
