Those rhythm/tempo changes were mind-blowing ! Well played sir. Did you track this without a click?

Sounds absolutely fantastic, But I can hardly hear the vox at some parts, I'd maybe give them a tiny nudge up. I don't know if I'm the only one hearing this, but other than that it sounds great.

Although I never listen to that genre either, I'm used to quite upfront vocals etc.

But yeah, sounds great!
Okay thanks for listening. :)

Thanks due. I use a click. I just map out the changes. Easy as pie. :)

Freakishly tight playing. Here's the thing . . . I listen to tracks, and usually by about a minute or so, the musical story has been told and so there's no need to listen to any more. With this one, I kept listening, because there is something new to suck you in just about every bar. It's a skillful and clever arrangement. It compels you to keep listening to the end.

Wow, thanks a lot gecko. :)

these lyrics remind me of yesterdays diary submission. you speak to my soul

I can't say anything that has not been said before, your skills as a songwriter, arranger, and mixer have come a really long way. I remember a time when you said that you could not write your own tunes and all you were doing were really creative cover tunes.
You've come a long way in a very short time......love the song!!!:D

Thanks a lot dude. I did all those covers to learn my gear and my recording process. I didn't wanna waste original songs on that mess. :D

Just listened to it again. The drums still seem to be a bit far back. It's hard to explain. It sounds like it has a desire to pop, but it's getting pushed back.

This very cool, kinda got a maiden feel there for a little while untill it went all bpm on steroids.
I have no nits, If there's any it might be the drums were a tad lower than what I usually expect from you, specially in the outro, the snare is kinda "burried" but being a non drummer I can dig that :D
Lyrics are hilarious.

Top stuff.

Hawwwwww........
Had a bit of time on my hands so I dropped in.

Glad I did, cool track Greg

Nothing to say except, just listened and enjoyed the listen ..........
See ya GL

Thanks guys. The drums are a little lower than how I usually mix, but I can't decide if I wanna change it or not. :o

Can't add anything new to what's already been said. The toms have a nice ring and I'm surprised to hear them stand out over everything else. It works nicely.

GZ mentioned the tight playing and one time a long time ago, you said something about quantizing... what are you doing there?? cutting up and aligning all the audio clips?? I know you don't use midi, so that's not the same kind of quantizing. Just curious. I know I never had great timing, but if I could find a trick to get my tracks tighter, that would be cool.

Thanks Chili. I've never "quantized" anything. I don't cut and align anything. I've been accused in the past of quantizing, and using MIDI and samples, but I don't. Never have. I couldn't, even if I wanted to. I don't know how to do it. There's no trickery whatsoever in any of my mixes. Honestly, I just play the drums to a click. I figure out the tempo I want, set the metronome, record a scratch guitar or bass track to the click, then record the drums for keeps and erase the scratch tracks. It's all based on the click. Time and tempo changes are programmed in to the click track and I just follow the beeps. It might sound machine-like and emotionless, but that's what I want. I don't groove or jam or any of that hippie shit. I want military precision. 9 times out of 10 I want my songs to be like a runaway train, or a battalion of tanks mowing through a village crushing women, children, and family pets under the treads. :)

Anywayz.....I don't know to help you get tighter, except to practice with a metronome. Even in my younger days, I played with metronomes and played music that relied on steady, driving, relentless beats. It's just in my blood I guess. I can keep good time. When I first joined my band they marveled at how good my meter is. I never paid much attention to it. A drummer is supposed to be able to keep time, right? Anyway, I suspect you've spent your life listening to and playing loose jam based music. You gotta undo all of that. ;)

Start with some AC/DC. Play along to that.

<sigh> I knew you were going to say that.... :( :D But that's way cool and I'm glad to hear it's just honest straight forward playing.

I remembered your quantize comment from a month or two back (and I'm not going to go look for it) and meant to ask you what you meant by it then, but never had the chance. ( i think the conversation moved way beyond or something).

yeah, i play along with a click or midi drums, but it's never tight and you've noted that once or twice (or three times). Thanks for the reply.

I don't know anything about quantizing. I mean, I kind of know what it is, but I don't know how to do it. I think it lines up transients to a grid or something, but I don't see how that would be a good thing with traditionally recorded acoustic drums. As much as I rally behind the click, there's still gotta be a degree of human error in music to make it sound human and musical. Little variances are good. Big variances are sloppy. And believe it or not, it's harder to play slow than it is to play fast. Listen to the Melvins. Some of that shit is ridiculously slow with huge gaps in-between drum hits. That would be way harder than just ripping through a song double-time. It just takes practice and you get a feel for it. I don't even really listen to the click. It's not loud in my headphones or anything. Actually, it hurts my ears, so I keep it low on purpose. It's just barely in there, clicking away underneath the scratch tracks. Once you lock into it, you don't even notice it anymore. When I'm really on the click, it vanishes completely.

Dude, I'm kinda late on this one, but I had to say that it is bad ass. I especially like the tempo change going into the pre-chorus. I guess that's what you call it. Other than that I really think you shredded the hell out of the guitar on the lead fill parts. All in all this is a great tune.

BTW. I really thought the marching sounded damned good at the end and the lyrics pretty much described most of the population in which I live. Hell some of it might describe me. haha. No surely not! dammit!

Cool, thanks trump. There's a little white trash in all of us. :D

Haha this is great. I'm listening with a silly grin on my face. That wah that is killer. I like this a lot . Under the goofy exterior there is real craftsmanship in the mix, arrangement and performances. You have got it, as they say, going on

Haha, love the lyrics. The drums are awesome. Don't know why, but kinda reminds me of the fast food song you did a while back.
