Vic Firth 7A......

I play rock, blues and jazz....... all with the same band.........

I love the light touch - but i go through a set of sticks a night - and a gerbil or hamster would love the wood shavings - i work the rim of my snare and play the cymbals anywhere from the flat to the edge..........

I couldn't imagine playing with anything as thick as a 5A or B - it would feel like a club in my hands.

Rod

I used to feel the same way, but thicker sticks just sound better, no question. I like the feel of the As but its not worth it to sacrifice sound.

I have been using Peter Erskine sig Vic Firth's (round tip). Great stick, but the tip does tend to chip after some use. May have to start looking into a new stick.

I use 5b Pro Mark sticks. I used to use 2b. I break sticks all the time, I play very hard.

i use vic firth 5A for heavy metal and i love the rebound the weight and the tone
the blisters and the cracked sticks sucks

Vic Firth 7a's mainly. Sometimes a 5a, depending on if I'm pissed or not.
I have some of those cool rods and, man are they light. They do cut down the volume though.

Pro-Mark 747 oak - just like the way they feel and they are durable for my heavy style.
Pro-Mark 747 hickory - for soft tunes, I love how light weight they are, but for heavier stuff if I forget to switch over to the oak .... Looks like an angry beaver got ahold of um.
Lightning Rods - soft stuff and quiet practice. Actually, I make my own now. Buy the wood dowels from the lumber yard and some heat shrink tube from the local electronics supply.
99% are wood tip, tho I will use nylon tips now and then for a good ping on the ride as needed.

Vater Manhattan 7A. (Wood tip ALWAYS).

Perfect length, weight, tip, everything.

i bought some Vater Manhattan 7As because the shop didnt have my normal Vic Firth American Classic 7As but I broke them really quickly.... in a about 5 hours of rehearsing... my Vic Firths usualy last a few weeks....

Newbie here, which budget-friendly stick do you recommend that is light, yet strong?

promark

promark 808's japanese oak, best sticks i have ever used

Vic Firth Weckl and of course the Hot Rods.

I do have a set of the Ahead Ulrich's but IMO they make the drums sound like ass. They hold up well though. Whenever I choose to play metal and use 1,000,0000 ply heads, I use the Aheads.

I use Pro Mark Millenium 2's they are pretty cheap and they feel good to me

Pro mark

I play with 2b in the oak. They feel great but then again
I'm used to playing drumcore sticks so 5a would feel like toothpicks.I tried the Zildjian ergo stick but they just didn't feel right.
Why is everybody going to the hickory it seems?
I had to special order my oak from japan :D

i use travis barker 5bs which suck, and i also use ahead 5bs for metal and general loudness. but they suck also.

the travis barkers have got alot better recently. they used to be shaped like bananas, they're not so bad now.

Drum Sticks

Tried a Vic Firth AJ3 two years ago and now use nothing else. :D
