I use Logic platinum for midi and tracking
soundforge for printing effects and waveform editting.

I used to use vegas. It was and is stupidly easy and stupidly powerful(it takes the tracking out of it so you can concentrate on your music , but I switched to Logic cos I can do my midi in Logic. Logic has been kind of a love hate relationship

Blinddogblues, thanks for the warning about Cubase 5.0. I will do my homework before purchasing any sequencer--and I'm in no hurry.

Vegas all the way

I've used CoolEdit Pro, Cakewalk and now Vegas. Vegas is a rock. By far the least problematic. Easy to use, flexible and seemless when used with SoundForge for editing and Acid for meticulas drum arrangements. Build your drum arrangements in Acid, mix down to a track and open in Vegas and you're off to the races.

Poll ,and where to download

I'm a new member, this is my 2nd visit. Where can I download some of the software in this poll? I have a lot to learn.
The poll percent seemed higher on my last visit. Is it current? Or does it start all over each day or week?
Thanks!

try hitsquad.com for starters...you can get a lot of demos and shareware there...all software makers supply demos thru their respective web sites..harmony central is a good database that typically links you to the manufacturer.....

the poll reflects total votes to date.

I was using N-track and really liked it, but had stability problems. I said the hell with it and picked up Cubase VST 5.0 last weekend and am NOT sorry. Rock solid on my system (PII 550, 512 MB RAM, Delta 66, Win2000).

I've recorded a couple of songs in it since and it is just sweet. Perfect, beautiful. Yum.

I've used Cool Edit for years, and for me it's the best, cause it is stable, fast, en giving a very good quality.

I'm a cheepskate, so I'm really into Pro Tools. It's free, it offers 8 digital tracks and a lot of midi tracks (not sure how many, the most I've ever used is probably twelve.)
It's great for recording and mixing.

I also have Quartz Audio Master Freeware, a digital 4-track sequencer. I don't like it as much as Pro Tools but I keep it around for the built in effects it has.

Vegas pro
Sound forge 4.5
acid 2.0

greatest system Ive seen yet, and Ive had cakewalk pa9, cakewalk pro suite, Music center pro, Magix 5.0. so Ive seen a few.

Athlon & Pro Tools Free

... Also, has anyone tried running Pro Tools Free on an Athlon 750?
I know that's not what's recommended, but I've got the chance to get one dirt cheap.

*************

That's sort of why I'm here. I don't know jack about computers (well, only a little Jack) but I have this AMD K7 Athlon 1.13 GHz computer and have been trying to track on Pro Tools Free and have been going thru hell. I swear if I hadn't started meditating again this would have driven me to tears and/or murder!

Everytime I try to insert EQ the sound gets all broken up. I tried using the Audio Suite for EQ and got a fatal error and crashed. When I got back up and tried to open my session, all my tracks had disappeared (weird because I'd SAVED after the 4th track so there's no damn good reason for them to not be there). PT had created some document of the session that I couldn't open so that was worthless. Is there something I need to tweak in order to use Pro Tools successfully on my machine? (Without getting a Digi001 interface--I'm too broke right now but hope to down the line.) Oh yeah, I've just got a Creative SB Live Value sound card.

I use Samplitude for audio processing and CD burning(the CD's sound noticibly better thru Samplitude than thru Adaptec). The Sekd forum is one of the most helpful- many pros ready to help any Sekd user.
For Midi and some audio, I use Logic. Tracks can be bounced down to WAV and imported to Samplitude for further processing. The bad part of Logic is the total lack of support. Try calling them some time.

CEP all the way. It's the perfect multitrack. (for me) No midi...just pure audio....

I tried protools free when it first came out and had nothing but problems too.....I frequently visited the digi forums then, and at least 50% of the users had problems too....I dunno if they released a newer version thats more stable.....I've given up on it....

I assume that your spelling of CEP means Sekd? Because Sekd's Samplitude is an audio processor specialist with a dab of Midi.

Cakewalk Uber Alles!!!!!

the sad thing about is that one has to use any these products. They all have issues and features that will drive you crazy. But once they get you in the upgrade hustle its hard to switch and bottom line, (Alchuck is right) go with what you know. And if you don't know anything go with what the most people are going with and that (at least on this forum) is cakewalk. Just look at the numbers.
