Which route should I take?

Hi new friends,

I'm looking at creating a setup to [separately] record drums, guitar, vocals and various percussion. I want it to be as clean as possible, within a reasonable budget. At most, I'll need 4 inputs (but who knows, maybe in the future I may want to fully mic my kit).

The two routes I have narrowed it down to, are
1. Firepod (AU$1000)
2. 2x DMP3 + M-Audio Delta 1010LT (AU$900)

If you only needed 4 inputs, which set-up would you choose? Which set-up would be cleaner?

Well if your looking for clean sound you should also think about the acoustics of the room. Maybe some gobos around the drums for some isolation. I wish I would have taken that into the equation BEFORE i got all my gear. If you are serious about your music some room treatment will be needed.

As far as gear, both the firepod and 1010 to my knowledge are stackable so you can add another on later if you feel you need more I/Os. The DMP3 in my personal view is a pretty decent preamp. Both the interfaces have decent preamps so really its up to which you feel would fit you better. I only have limited experience on the 1010 and it sounded great. No experience with the firepod so maybe someone who does can chime in. Good luck.

Thanks stealth

I'm still at my folks place so I can't do anything to the room. Either way, I've attached a photo of it (maybe someone could provide some general comments on what I could do).

The room is basically an 18' x 18' square with a 9' x 9' corner taken out (L-shaped). The roof goes from 9ft to about 15ft.

For mics, I'm leaning towards
SM57 (snare)
AKG D112 (bass drum)
Behringer ECM8000's (temporary overheads)
