Which of these would do best?

I know that you're all sick of "how do I mic my drum kit?" questions. I'm already planning to use two oktava mk012's for OH. These are my leftover mics for the rest of the kit. No idea what to do.

Oktava MK219 (snare or kick)
MXL V57 (snare or kick)
Shure SM58 (don't know if I'll have this available)

...or would I get the best results from the two OH's?

Thanks.

Try sticking the 219 underneath the snare . . . and put the 57 in front of the kick. Throw a wind screen in front of it if it's in front of the hole or open-head.

id put the 57 on snare and the 219 out in front of the click and the 58,if available, on the kick beater......

BTW, this is going to be for a live performance. Does that change anything?

For live, yes you need a kick mic, unless its a small venue.

the 58 will 'suffice' as a kick mic if you can't get anything else, but in all likelihood it'll sound like garbage.

you really need a "good" dynamic (RE20, SM7, MD441, etc) or a mic that's designed for kick (beta52, D112, etc) in order to get a good kick sound.

if budget's a concern, check out the CAD kick mic. it's only $50 from musician's fiend and some folks here have gotten a good rock kick sound from em. i have no experience with the CAD, so YMMV.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately, I can't afford a kick mic, and this is only a one time event. Perhaps you guys could help me with the whole setup.

Here are the mics I'll have available:

SM57 - 1
SM58 - 3
MK012 - 2
MK219 - 1
AT4050 - 1
MXL V57 - 1
other cheap Radio Shack mics

and I have to mic for a live performance:

3 vocals (2 female, 1 male...SM58's)
Gibson LP thru a Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb Amp (SM57?)
Drums (MK012 as OH and...?)

This is for my church band (alternative in sound).

Will that info help?
Thanks.

Oops! Forgot to mention that the sanctuary holds about 500 people.

I recall seeing a performance by Queen with a kick drum miced with a sm58

Just out of curiousity, what are you going to use the 4050 and the mxl 57 for? Also, you didn't mention anything about any other instruments, or is it just I guitar & drums? Does the Vibrolux have a line out? Also, in extremely small venues, I've always had more of a problem with the drums naturally overpowering everything else. I hate to have to say this, but that's what sound checks are for. Of course then it's completely different when it gets filled with people. Sorry. I'll bet you can find somebody who'll loan you another 57 or two, though.

did you say sanctuary? is the floor wood and tiered? if so, you might not need to mic the kick at all--the natural acoustics of the construction might boost the kick enough. i played drums in a church in a production of Godspell some many years ago and it was all we could do to tame the kick (and the snare). it *carried*.

in that case, and with such a small room, a 58 might suffice if you need to boost it any.

i hear ya on not being able to buy a kick mic. maybe renting one for $10 might be an option?

and again, you might not need one in the first place. can you get in there for a rehearsal prior to the gig? that'd be ideal.
