Hello,

I work with sampled environmental sounds, some analog instruments and vox, and a variety of weird digitally generated/manipulated noises. So far most of my mixing for CD purposes has been done with Pro Tools Free on my PC, then mastered and finalized with various pieces of software (T-Racks, Sound Forge, etc...). But at this point I am looking at possible live shows and want to integrate both digital sources, mics, etc... and want to get a quality mixer.

Can anyone give me some advice as to a particular brand or model I should look into for this application? Or features I should definitely keep in mind. I am thinking of spending tops - the $500.00 range. Anyone know of good sale or used equpiment sources?

Thanks - John

Features:
GOOD mic pres with Phantom power and lo cut switch.
EQ with parametric mids (even better is parametric hi mid and lo mid)
Groups, more than 2 outputs.
Auxiliaries, selectable pre or post fader.
Inserts. Very handy.
Balanced inputs on your stereo channels.
Meter bridge. :D

And of course, enough mono and stereo channels. You will ALLWAYS end up needing more than you buy. So, look at how many channels you could ever possibly need, then go out and buy at least the double. :)

Hello Roel,

Thanks for the info! What is the general opinion of the Behringer's Euorack mixer equipment?

Thanks again!

John

Check out the tascam tdm1000, It's a digital mixer around $500 at guitar satan!

Thanks! I actually am checking it out on the evil one's website as I type. I glanced over it before but will look at it more closely. This next question will likely show my utter newness to this stuff, but what are the advantages of a digital mixer over analog? Is it a question of more features? Better Sound? Both? Lots of cool buttons? :)
Thanks!
John
