heh heh.

is there a way to get a pair of mics for about a grand (or maybe a little over) that will give me a nice vintage german sound? or am i just dreaming...

btw not interested in studio projects or mxl stuff...they look cool and all but I am already aware of those options and want to look around some more.

the soundelux u195 looks real nice but a pair for 2 g's....... maybe one day.

thanks!

actually i just saw a vintage german made mic on e-bay the other day, not sure of the final price but i saw it at around $100.

if you want the classic sound you need the classic mics

vintage german sound? is that even possible, what style of music do you want this for

What the heck is a Vintage German Sound?

I mean, I think I have sort of a rough idea of what vintage is ... and German, I dunno. There's Senheiser, Beyer, Neumann, Geffel, and a bunch of others.

I don't know if there really even "is" such a thing anymore. Most of it exists primarily in hype and product marketing literature.

i meant something that sounds like a neumann. sorry!

Either a pair of used Neumann TLM103s or a pair of used Microtech Gefell M70s could be found for a bit over budget. A matched pair of ADK Hamburgs might do it for significantly less that $1k.

i'll check out the ADKs. as for the josephsons, although they look pretty sweet, from what I can tell they are a "flavor of the month" mic; also I am looking for LDCs. really I would just like something that sounds like the beatles.

The closest you'd get to that type of sound for a pair of LDC's under $1K would be the ADK Hamburg. Or if you wanted to go tube and a bit darker, the MXL V69ME.

The MXL V69ME would be the way to go for that in your price range. http://www.studioreviews.com/v69me.htm

The next move up – and obviously a better job for more money – would be a pair of Peluso 22 47's, which would run close to $2K for a pair.
