I told you before, I have a B3, which is a B1 with extra patterns, and I never said that it was an awesome vocal mic, only that it's better than the SM57. Quit misrepresenting people.

But, the B1 is NOT better than the SM57.... and the B3 is NOT just a B1 with extra patterns. Plus, read the thread... "In Flames 19" seems to be more concerned about nailing his drum sound first, while at the same time picking mic's that will double for acoustic/electric giutar. He didn't ask about a vocal mic. But, I know you mean well... take care.

Well, I realize that, but I disagree. The B1 is basically neutral, and the SM57 is way too colored for most vocals, IMO.

The differences between the B1 and the B3, from what I understand, are very, very subtle, with the B3 being a little less nice to most ears. Therefore, if the B3 is a good vocal mic, the B1 can only be better... if you can notice the difference at all.

If you listen to the 2 listening CD's provided by Studio Projects for free on the "B" and "C" series, the various models do a good job on the vocals recorded. Keep in mind that good mic placement
and judicious EQing make huge tonal differences.

All this depends too much on the singer and/or song to make arbitrary decisions without trying each case by case.
The SM57 and the B1 are the polar opposite of what I expected on my voice. B1 is fine for rock vocals, and the SM57 is more
of an "all-rounder"-better on ballads!.

P.S. Fell into the "few" instead of "most" catagory with the
AT4033, but when it works it's excellent.
(too nasal on me)
It tends to work best on analog reel to reel BTW.

That's interesting. I'll make note of that.

4033 sounds best w/ analog reel-to-reel.

Got it.

i was thinking of the sm57's... i could get them now and use it for recording my guitar amp and acoustic.. then when i gte the rest of the mics for my drum set i could use it for the snare and still have one left over the the guitar amp/acoustic guitar...

If you become rich and famous, and wind up with an infinite amount of money, you will STILL use the sm57's. The other mics you mention will likely be replaced with superior mics down the road.

If I was on a very tight budget I would likely buy 3 or 4 sm 57's and a nicer Studio Projects mic like the C1 or better yet, C3.

You could do a lot of recording with those mics.

I wonder why chessparov said that? Hey chessparov, why do you say that? Thanks.
