which condenser?

Don't worry, DJL likes to take things off for the odd wander around another subject, but we'll stay right on. We concluded that the AT4040 and the KSM27 were the two you should look at, and then we started looking at DJL's mudslinging. Chessrock and I will have a bit of a debate and leave it at that, but in the meantime DJL is sending me profane PMs again.

So I take that to mean that you really are a closet fan, then?

It's okay. We're all adults here. I'll admit I get choked up whenever I hear "The one that you love." :( sniff sniff.

Journey ... Open Arms ... same thing. I just don't think you have a heart if you don't.

To be honest, I've never heard of them. But for the sake of this thread they're my favourite band ever. :)

The Rode mics are as good or better than many of the competitors (I.e. the SPC1 was/is a want-to-be NT1, IMO).

Anyway, I've never used the Bluebird or GT55... but both the AT4040 and KSM27 are nice mics... before you buy one, checkout both.

If you had a brain or a sense of humour, that would be laughable.
You'll have to excuse noisedude... the PMI Audio Group and their internet groupies are out to hang me for not worshiping PMI-AG products.

I'm hangin......

I talked to a co-worker who is in commerical production. He said the Shure27 is warmer than the other mics I mentioned.

However I found a guy selling new AT4040s for $199.00. What is it my wife says "Can't pass on a sale deer" :D
The KSM27 is a good mic... it's tailored for vocal tracking... and sounds pretty good on whatever you put in front of it... but if you can, you really should audition it for yourself to make sure YOU like it.

Sorry to hijack yet another thread, but I've been trying to post for days now, and for some reason it won't let me (I'm sure one of the comedians here have some theories), and this is actually the topic I wanted. My original attempted post follows:

How would you characterize the GT55?

I did a search and the results were inconclusive. One person seemed to like it, but it was their only 'good' mic. One post described it as good for bass-heavy singers and bass-heavy instruments. Another poster said it was 'dark' with a rolled off top end, which would be good for shrill or nasally voices, just the opposite of what the first person said.

Does anyone have, or have they used, the GT55 and been able to compare it to any other reasonably decent mic, not just 'I like it, but it's my first condenser', or 'my only other mic is a mic that came with my pc', etc.

Of course the reason I'm asking is the CG bundle with d770's for $299. I was going to pay $199 for the 770's anyway, so I thought, hey another mic for a hundred bucks wouldn't be bad if it had a useful purpose. If it's no better than an SP B-1, a C2000, a 3035, etc, then I might as well save my money to go towards a decent mic later. I can't really do any recording at the moment, so it's not like I'm dyin' for a new mic right now. I just thought if it would be useful later, might as well.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Again, apologies for the hijacking.

Don't flatter yourself, kiddo. :)
