I know. I know. This question has been worn out. However, I need to know what you think. Which Bass and amp should I buy. I have around a 300$ budget. This bass will be used in church so I do not know if that will make a difference because of style. Also that means that probally 50 watts is plenty. Anyway, you need more info just let me know. Thanks in advance, Matt

Guitar center (or most other music stores even Musician's Friend) is selling squire P-basses at 169.00, in fact I think you can get a starter combo pack which is a P-bass with a small practice amp. I hope you have a PA system for that amp though since 50 watts won't even fill up my room. At 300.00 this is pretty much your only choice. Not excatly the best sounding or playing set up but for your puroses it should do. Good luck!

Tnanks. We do have a P.A. but however Last time we used a friend of mines bass and a 25 watt amp and it was enough. So I believe 50 watts probally will do. Thanks, Matt

Hey I found another option that will cost ya only 250.00 (+ tax).

You can order a Rogue 4 string bass for 129.99 (that may sound better than the squire p-bass because it has a J-bass pick -up as well) and then purhcase the rogue RB-50B 12" Bass combo amp 50watts for another 119.99.

These are available at musicians friend. Just another idea.

I don't know the price on this one, but a new student of mine just bought a Hartke starters pack. A small amplifier + bass, and I suspect at about $250.
Once set up the sounded allright, the neck needed adjusting as well as action, bridge intonation and fastening the pots.

I`ve recently played both the 4 and 5 string Rouges. They are actually quite well built basses with nice finishes on them. If it sounds and plays well I don't care if it says "WalMart" on the headstock.

I have never heard of them. My guess is that it is comparable quality to the fender squire P-bass. Sounds like a good deal I just wish I was able to "try before I buy".

The thing is that the rogue brand is popular and already has a good reccommendation on this string. The rogue may be more but I am sure that it is better buy for your money and you may avoid having to lookfor another bass down the line if this johnson bass doesn't do it for you.

Then again at the lowest price range, there may not be much of a difference between these three choices.

i wouldn't touch the squier basses with a 10-foot pole. go for the rogue. squier basses are poorly built (necks warp invariably) and the electronics aren't much better. see if you can try a handful of basses at a local store.
