Fender "Extra Heavy" pics?

I've been full circle...started out with Fender Extra Heavies...went softer and other brands eventually thought I settled down with Dunlop Big Stubbies (still play them from time to time..mostly acoustic believe it or not) but now, I'm playing my left over stock of Fender Extra Heavies...they're gettin worn with chamfered edges -n- all but where to get a new supply?

I did a little surfin' and found a source in Austrailia. Love them folks down under but OMG...shipping is insane. NE1?

Thanks,

hey punkin-

I used to use those too, I loved them, but they are very hard to find.

I bought a couple of these, you might want to try one out. Theyre solid ivory picks, and feel very much like the extra heavy fenders. They are pricey. BUT Ive been using the same one for a year and it still has zero wear on it. You can get them form this guy, he's great:

Thanks Hard2hear,

Would you say that the "standard" is a closer match or the "over-size"?

You're right, a little pricey but if you're not into throwing them into the crowd...Besides, you're paying for some serious craftmanship there. I have a considerable collection of hand made/carved stone, ivory and "other" picks..if nothing else, in my quest for that perfect pic, I'll "pick" up a new ivory picker.

I'm in the studio these days so I like it to be comfy and predictable...right down to the picks. If it feels right and it lasts, I'll be a happy camper.

BTW...looks like some other very cool stuff there too...acoustic players should have a look. The bridge pins and bridges look intersting.

Thanks!

That guy is a scam artist, period. First of all, why the fuck would you want to spend $45 bucks for a fucking pick! Hell, I've seen guys selling real tortoise for like $10, and I still think it is stupid. unless you are buying finger or thumb picks, there is no need to spend more than 50 cents.

Second of all, he claims that his "ivory" bridge pins and nuts will improve your tone. Let me state this clearly and for the record.

BRIDGE PINS HAVE ZERO EFFECT ON THE SOUND OF YOU GUITAR, AND NUTS WILL ONLY EFFECT THE OPEN STRINGS (minimally).

Period. End of story, conversation and argument. Anyone who says other wise is either lying to you or themselves. If they are lying to you, it is because they want your money, if they are lying to themselves it is because they are unwilling to admit they just spent $150 on something which had a value of $0.

As for Extra-Heavy Fenders (which are my favorite pick, by the by), I would imagine Guitar Center has them, but if you can't or won't got that route, you can order them by the gross through pretty much any music store. I have at least 4-5 suppliers I can get them from. Oh, and from Fender, so that brings us up to 6 or so. They do only ship them by the gross though, so you will have to be committed to the picks.

Thanks Light.

I checked with a couple local music shops here and they no longer stock them. As you put it, they've got to buy them by the gross and I guess they just don't move them.

I'm seeing more and more of those fancy hand made ones out there...a while back I bought this really pretty to look at hand polished stone piece but it really sucks for playing...I ended up putting it away on a shelf. For acoustic I pretty much stick with finger style or the trusty Dunlop 3mm Big stubby's. For electric, I keep coming back to the Fender Extra Heavy.

I'll keep looking around close to home...thanks again.
