I want to buy a keller snare shell....

Im looking for a place that will pre-drill it and do the bearing edge, and the vent holes (OCDP syle)

Then, I will just have to finish it (stain) and assemble it....

Can you point me to some decent place that will do this and cheap..?

Joe

PS>>I found this place in a search... Are they ok?

Or, are there better ones?

Precision Drum and www.drummaker.com are pretty much the only major players for this. Another one to check out is Adonis Drums.

As far as cheap goes, some of them will do the edges and all that (except for the vent holes) for free if you buy all the hardware (lugs, strainers, etc) with the shell.

I did a bunch of research on all this a little while ago because I was going to build a maple snare but decided not to at the last minute. :)

I bought a similar shell from Andy at drummaker.com. It was a replacement maple shell for a free floating snare. Andy cut the edges and drilled 8 one inch holes for me. It was pretty cheap, and nicely done.

I might go with these.......

Shit.. By the time, I buy all the stuff and pay to have someone properly finish it (Kitchen Cabinet guy with a spraybooth).. I can have them totally done.....

Plus, I suck at D.I.Y....... I buy a coffee table from Ikea and it ends up being a night table when I'm done assembling it.

5 Piece standard Kit made from Keller Maple Shells $945... With about 20 finishes to choose from.... Totally finished and assembled

Cool huh?.......

Glenn D,

Here in the UK it's difficult to find anyone to re cut/ cut bearing edges. Did he use a special machine or bench router? Anyone else had work like this done and seen the process then please chime in.

Cheers

keller shells

Not sure if you are still looking for Keller drum shells, i've only just joined the forum , but tikidrums is based in the UK and can cut the bearing edges and snare beds for you as well as drill holes, they can do you the whole lot for a lovely snare for about £200, that includes all the lugs, strainer and snare wires. worth a look

Lowri, this thread is over 6 years old ;).

As far as the UK goes, I wouldn't go past Gareth Heeley of Highwood Drums.

Yes just noticed the date after i wrote message, but hey.
Personally i love my Keller shell and am really happy with tikidrums products, i also know Highwood drums which are good too but i specifically wanted a Keller shell. Worth checking out tikidrums if you haven't already, you can never have too many sources for drum building parts, especially in the UK

Well from what I just saw on Tiki's site, all they're doing is supplying and/or using shells and hardware, mainly sourced from the US, which is fine if that's what you want or need whereas Highwood generally make their own shells. When Gareth was importing to the UK from the US he encountered what a former major Keller user here in Aust., experienced......shells that were too far out of round to be usable, the conclusion was that Keller appeared to be off-loading their "reject" stock o/seas where they knew shipping costs would prohibit the chance of faulty product being returned.
