I don't get it - this is at least the second rap bashing thread I've seen in the last two days. Why are you guys doing this? Come on, think about why we're all into this hobby (or profession for those lucky few). It's because we're all interested in making art - in this case the art of sound. Not everyone has the same taste, but there's a reason that every genre exists. It's because there is a segment of the population that gets an emotional charge by the art of every genre. Now I'll be the first to admit that rap and hip-hop aren't my favorite forms of music, but that doesn't make me respect those that are involved with it any less. As it's been pointed out, there probably are some who don't have a lot of talent and think because they have the right clothes and attitude, they can call themselves a "producah". But this isn't any different from say, the guy who has long hair, piercings, a studded belt, and a crappy guitar, and calls himself a metal musician even though he can't play worth a damn, or a guy calling himself a country musician just because he has a hat, boots and a pickup. The fact is, I believe some of these guys on this board are putting a lot of heart and soul into their craft that is hip hop or rap, and should be treated with the same respect as all the rest of us.
Also, for those of you that say it takes no talent to rap, try it some time and see how easy it is. Although I consider myself a reasonably decent singer and guitarist, I can't come close to doing anything that sounds like decent rap - it takes a different set of skill which take time to develop. Does it only take "half" the talent because there's no "pitch" involved? - My God, get a life!
