I use Fat Cheese, its a vst generator and it sounds cool

I really like the fish fillets and elemental audio's free Inspector plug. Good metering for free.

Don't use too many VST's, but I grab free one's and wrap them for Pro Tools. Since Pro Tools went to v.7, the wrapped plugs work better than the older RTAS versions! Of course, the free plugs have a *very* slow development cycle...

The Elemental Audio plugs are great, with Inspector XL, Equim and Neodynium being the standouts, in my opinion. PSP also makes some excellent plugins.

There are some fine freeware VST's, and one of my favorites is George Yohng's W1 Limiter. Very simple operation in the style of an L1 limiter, but it sounds good. Really good.

Other freeware I like is Fuzzplus from AudioDamage:

And "Crunch", the one that Roland gave the author a cease and desist on. (good luck finding it).

However, here's the most fantastic site for checking out freeware plugins, and it is OUTSTANDING. Hours of downloading fun for both PC and Mac users (mostly PC):

UAD-1 Pultec Pro -- If I had to mix with only one plug-in, this would be it. 99% of the plug-ins out there make everything sound worse without even touching a knob. The Pultec actually makes it sound better most of the time.

nm. Both equim with neodynium is 189 bucks. Too much for me. I'll stick with free plugs. Ever use A0 parametric eq? That's what i'm using and it's great. What reverb plugin(if any) do you use?

I picked up the whole bundle with Eqium, Firium (also a great EQ), Neodynium and Finis. I don't remember the price but's it's a better deal to buy all of them.

I use the reverb that was bundled with Sonar. Perfect Space convolution reverb and Lexicon.

thanks. I think i'll stick with the free plugins for awhile.

Actually, I wasn't really impressed with the Kjhaerus plug at first either. I started using it just for light vocal reverb while tracking because it has a relatively low CPU overhead and low latency, but I figured out that once you tweak it you can get some really nice 'verb out of it. Not as good as the SIR1010, but WAY less CPU usage...and very usuable soundwise. But you gotta tweak it. The presets are mostly crap.

I have not had much luck with this plug. I think I just suck at using reverb plugs.

Adapted and adopted from Amra :) ...

"Actually, I wasn't really impressed with the _______ at first either. I started using it just for _______, but I figured out that once you tweak it you can get some really nice _______ out of it. I think we should all cut and save this. Fill in the blanks as appropriate, and this paragraph probably could accurately answer the forum question, "What is your opinion on ______?" for just about every plug and box out there.

It sure would save us all a lot of burnt time :).

ok, i have to add PeakPressor here as a limiter.
eq: gliss EQ

ThreadFilter by GimmieABreak Software. Does a great job of alerting people who are responding to dead threads that are older than a user-selectable amount of time. :D

Most bang for my bucks is:

Clone Ensemble (fantastic VST plug in. Recommended.) some 13 USD I beleive

Else I have a bunch of expensive plugins that really does a good job and Logic Pro comes with lots of plugins. Sculpture and Space designer is the two most used from that package, together with Motu MX-4, Akoustic piano and BFD from Fxpansion.

This is a "List your favorite VST plugin" thread, not a "List what plugs you use" thread ;)

L3 forever! ANd the kandos is retarted

Kandos is just fun for the slow guy, i love it, when your tired of trying to figure out if the reverb on the vocals is dry enough to tolerate. You just plug this baby on and blow your voice coils out! It will have you laughing like a retard in seconds Plus Its all you need to reset your eardrums
