"Perpetual Change" off Yessongs, Santana's version of the animals song. "She's Not There"

dafduc,

Well, yeah, he doesn't play over the changes of "Pork Pie Hat"... but then they are pretty tough changes to play over... I just really like the solo, even though it's obviously comped from several passes, differcnt guitar, etc.

I also love "New Ways/Train Train," and most of the stuff off Rough and Ready -- how about that solo on the way out in "Got the Feeling" -- that cycling little phrase that circles around and eats itself at the end -- magnificent!

That's easy, Bob Dunn playing 'When You're Smiling' on a Martin with a telephone coil for a pickup as a lap steel with Cliff Brunner and his Texas Wanderers around 1935. When I hear that solo today, it's still from Mars.

Id have to say Kirk Hammets solo in Sanatarium. Actually.. any Kirk Hammet Solo.

I could list a thousand, but I will skip the more popular....

1. David Gilmore (Pink Floyd) "oh Babe". Not a shredder, but the man puts intense feeling in every note.

2. Lindsey Buckinham (fleetwood Mac) "So Afraid" on the live album. Again, it's all about feeling.

3. Triumph "Rock and Roll machine" This guy was doing Eddie before Eddie.

Yeah, the whole album's great. Situation, too, though more for the really cool main riff, and Max's solo.

I thought Denny Diaz played the solo on "My Old School".

I read an interview with Becker when "Two Against Nature" came out and he said he did the solo's on TAN because he wanted to be able to pull them off live.:D

My bad. Still sounds like Becker to me, but you're probably right.

I actually put "Don't Take Me Alive" on the list, then changed it to "My Old School". Coulda gone for "Peg", too.

Jimmy Page - Since I've Been Loving You
Pete Anderson - Gone(That'll Be Me)
Will Ray - Sweet Dreams
Danny Gatton - Harlem Nocturne

Those are ones that really move me, however.........

Must agree with the posts on Crossroads.

I also agree with Scott about Brent Mason.

Although it wasnt a guitar solo that made me pick up the guitar, here are my absolute favorites in no particular order:

Hendrix: "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)"
Jimmy Page: "For Your Life", "Tea for One", "Achilles Last Stand", "No Quarter", "I Can't Quit You Baby"
Iron Maiden: "Number of the Beast", "Aces High"
Judas Priest: "Another Thing Coming"
Diamond Head: "Am I Evil"
Megadeth: "Peace Sells", "Wake Up Dead", "Hangar 18"
Alice In Chains: "Man in the Box"
Van Halen: "Panama", "Hot For Teacher"
Tesla: "Modern Day Cowboy"
Angus Young: far too many to choose from

Richie Blackmore on "Lazy"

The whole song is a solo, and the tone is just soooo .... liquid.

I like "I Stole Your Love" too, it rocks! Great song!

In fact, [OT], I saw the Kiss Alive 2 show at the Forum in '77, ["I was There"]. I thought they were going to blow the roof off the forum, or that they'd light the rafters on fire! Geez, all the spectacle, it was awesome!

Anyway, my favorite solo comes from the LIVE version of Jimi Hendrix's "In from the Storm", as featured on the "Jimi Hendrix: The Motin Picture" soundtrack. The song starts out as paced, and then goes uptempo for the break, breaking back into the paced rythm, through til the end. I believe it's an excerpt from the "Isle of Wight, '70" performance, 9 months previous to Jimi's death.

I swear, when they hit the break, and Jimi goes off into his solo, chills just runs up my spine! I swear it! It's true! Chills dammit!

Late;)

I always loved Page's outro to Black Dog...
And I can't believe anybody else remembers Fred. It warped my mind. For years, I didn't know who the guitar player was, so I called him Fred Swift.

LAZY is one of my favorite songs!

What's great about Deep Purple, is that in most of their songs, each instrument had a solo section. Still one of my favorite groups/albums/songs.

Ah yes, Ritchie Blackmore...dont hear enough about him these days. He played some great stuff with Rainbow too. STREET OF DREAMS, STONE COLD...fantastic. I never thought that Jimmy Page was that great of a soloist, but he could construct a song like nobodys business. His chord structures and stuff were awesome. Jimi never captured on tape how great he really was. I have seen some films of him just wailing. When he was on he was great.

How about all of Ace Frehley's soloing off of KISS ALIVE!!!
I dont care if the damn thing was doctored up in the studio, Ace still played it!!! You know what, I love ALL of Ace's stuff regardless of how simplistic it may be today. I grew up on it, as many of you did also. Gotta love Space Ace!!

Nope, sorry....

The lead guitarwork on My Old School is my favorite Republican guitarist.... Jeff "Skunk" Baxter.
