I sit on you.
So I've gone through a few pairs of hats. I just bought some nice "14 New Beats and that brought up the question, "Wonder what other people like?". I aim to eventually get a set of 13" A Custom Mastersounds as primarys, and New Beats as secondary. So what do you all use/prefer?
(I love 13" A Custom Mastersounds) :D
 
Depends on the sound

I'm partial to 14" new beats. Had them for quite some time now and they've aged well.
 
I haven't shopped around a whole lot but I own a set of 14" New Beat hihats and they just seem so balanced that I think I would get tired of anything else after a while....but not the new beats. Just my thoughts.
 
Mines probably K Custom dry hats, or maybe K Custom Sessions. I dunno, its tough, but K's and K Customs are my favorite Zildjain lines. And as far as Sabian goes, HHX's and Evolutions :cool:
 
I was at a drum teacher's house at one time and he had multiple kits/cymbals/etc. He had these old, old, OLD set of hats....I don't think they were Zildjians.....maybe Istanbul or something. But they were absolutley amazing. Sounded better than any newer-ish pairs.
 
Best I ever had were 13'' K/Z high hats. Getting another pair is on the list. I regret selling them.
 
Simple and sweet for what I play...Sabian 14" AA Rock Hats (regular finish). Loud, crisp, quiet when you need them to be, and a very audible crisp "chick" with pedal. Sounds great for swishes too.
 
old 14 new beats

I've got an old pair of new beats, probably new in 1982, which are finally starting to crack. I'm just a drummer so I don't know much about recording quality of them, but I do like them. I'd start looking at other ones, but then I'd have to replace both top and bottom, so...
 
I hate all Zildjians :) Sabian all the way :P.

Sabian AAX stage hats 14" or for some louder application Sabian AAX-celerator hats :)
Also I like the sound of the AA Metal-X series 14"..but that one I don't have..2 hats is enough for me.
 
One of the kits where I used to take lessons quite a while ago had a really sweet old pair of heavy Zildjians. Such a great sound, nice attack with the stick, and really crisp *chick* and splash when playing with the foot.

Dang, 15's!? What kinda music do you play? Those 15 inchers are so "deep" and dark!
 
I'm currently using Sabian El Sabor hats, and they kick ass AFAIC.
 
Just bought a set of 13'' Sabian Fusion high hats. Looking forward to getting rid of the Wuhans.

So, don't you hate Sabians then? Bob Zildjian ownes the company.
Sabian is made from the names of his 3 kids, Sally, Billy and Andy Zildjian.

I prefer the hats made by Eric Paiste's family.
 
I like the softness and versatility of New Beats. I don;t think they are ever the right Hi-Hat, but they always fit in.
 
I play 14" Meinl Dark hats. Love them. They look badass too, they're all pitted. I personally don't like any of the choices in the poll... so I'm adding my own!
 
for some reason I personally have always hated the new beats. I own a pair of a custom 13". Nice sweet crisp tight sound. Love em
