What's the point of a really good transparent pre-amp?

That's still too noisy. :D

Take a microphone capsule, connect it directly to an AES42 module - and BINGO - you have your 24/96 digital audio without any amplifiers or analogue cables at all - and very very very low noise. :cool:

What are you recording that 7dBA is too noisy?

Anyway, we've been over AES42 before, it's a niche standard that will fade away when very low noise converters are less expensive. Put phantom power and a pad switch on the converter, done. Dynamic mics will change to either have onboard amplifiers or people will use inline amplifiers with legacy mics.

Much cheaper and easier than implementing synch of multichannel AES42, fully backwards compatible with existing mics. Uses much less power as well.
