What's the deal with Mogami cables

The ability to detect improved sonic quality with better cables has a lot to do with the other components in your chain. You are only as strong as your weakest link. If you have a subpar preamp, monitors, sound card, etc., the advantages of better cable may not be realized.
My cables have all been replaced with Monster, Blue, and Mogami, and there certainly is a difference.

This thread is killing me. I wanted to make my own cables and I talked with the dood's at the store and they kept saying, "after you get done with all the connectors the price is about the same." My asshole says not on this assumption! Cable is dirt cheap lol. Where the hell do you buy Mogami TT patch cables as I am not sure if these would be worth it solder all of thosem but depending on the price. I just bought over 400 bucks in cable. I could have made all the cables in my life I would have ever needed for 400 bucks. What a ripp off.

Here you go.......

I replaced with Mogami. No sound improvement at all. But, no static with high energy signals either.

That's not a sound improvement?

I just made up a custom patch bay and bunch of TRS and XLR cables with Canari star quad and Neutrik. Without a doubt I saved over four hundred dollars, and ended up with everything exactly the length and layout I wanted. Lots of work, but well worth it, and the end quality is excellent.

Good thing about the Canari cable for DIY's with little soldering experience is that you can overheat the crap out of it without melting anything but the solder. Only negative I found with the Canari is that at extremely high gain it becomes slightly microphonic, more so than the Blue Kiwi cable I compared it to, but this is not an issue at normal gain levels.

No. It is not a sound improvement. It is using cables that are not faulty. There is a difference.
The improvement in sound I have not heard between monster cables, Mogami or Hosa. If the cables are working correctly. Better cables mean a much longer life, however. I use an A&H mixer, Avalon, Focusright, Neumann, Disstressors, John Hardy etc. My soundchain is comprised of some of the best stuff you can get, so it is very unlikely that a sound difference with the change of expensive cables would go unoticed. I just don't hear it. But, I will say that great quality cables will last far longer than cheap ones. The $$$ are in the connectors, the termination and strain-reliefing, the better quality cable and excellent soldering. Cheap cables oxidize inside if the insulation. Try stripping some insulation from an old cheap cable and you will see that the copper has turned black. In time, this will happen to the whole cable and the connections will start to break down. The resistance of the wire will go higher and higher until there is no connection. Oxygen-free cable is the key to long lasting cables. The manufacturer Belden has had 99% oxygen-free cable for many years (way before Monster cables started using this as a selling point).
Most of these companies selling high-end cable charge outrageous prices. They all have great cable, but like 10 times the cost (if not more). I guess the biggest advantage to Monster cable is the lifetime warranty (no saleslip needed). That is a huge advantage to a working touring band.

Well ok, but to me that's like saying using chevron gas didn't give you a performance improvement over the cheap gas that had water condensed in it and made your engine sputter. I do get your point, but at the end of the day (an abnouxously overused line) your system had a sonic improvement, that of reduced distortion, by swapping out cheap cables with good quality ones. Sorry, not trying to give you a hard time, just a difference of opinion on the wording I guess. :)
