Hey speaking of CAD mics does anyone have any experience with the CAD GXL3000 multipattern? They're currently on sale at a few places...

Thanks.

Yes I saw them going for $70 at a couple of places. Here is one of the only reviews that I saw.

The reviewer makes it sound a fair bit like the descriptions that some people on this thread and a couple of other recent threads have used regarding the CadM179. and I wonder if they are fairly close in character and build. The original GXL price was pretty much the same as the M179.

Don Kelly & Chessrock are fans of the Cads and might know if this is the case ???

Another vote for the CAD M179. It's ultra quiet and the multi-pattern comes in quite useful. I'm a big fan of AT mics too though. Love my 3035 and my dad's 4033.

Mikey,

If you're considering a tube mic, I have an SP T3 which I'm thinking of selling, not because I don't like it but I've gutted my studio and I don't imagine using it in the foreseeable future.

Hi Ausrock, Thanks for the offer but at the moment I'm leaning towards the Cad M179 for its variable pattern. A friend is going to the US soon etc. But I'll ask around. How much are you wanting? I have a SP b1 and get a lot out of it.
Whereabouts are you in the wide brown land? I'm up in the Blue Mountains.

Knight's territory, about 160 klms north of Syd.

What do I want for it? Based on their new price, I guess I'd have to be looking around $500 or a sensible offer. A friend had been using it on an album and other recordings recently and when he returned it he was telling me that at no time did he have to do any EQing on the T3 tracks.......one project was with a "Neve" style preamp and an La2 comp, the other was through a "prosumer" firewire style pre, etc., and both were tracked on a Mac laptop with Protools LE. BTW, the T3 is multi pattern.

just wanted to say thanks to the good folks in this thread and in the community, you know who you are and what I'm talking about.

I just used my m179 on a hammond through leslie cab, slightly to the cardoid side of figure 8 (I LOVE variable patterns), for the HF speaker. LF speaker I used a PVM520, love it for that. MAN the highs sounded good with the CAD.

Chinese or not, great mics, world class.
