What's so special about the JoeMeek VC3Q?

I am very impressed...you win the prize. Thruth be told, the entire album was cut using 8 VC1Q's. The reason I know is I set up the session. It was by John's request to use as much Meek as possible, so that's what was done...Good Call Chess :cool:

Actually my assessment of song and production was
understated since I'll be listening and probably buying that
album soon. That single shone among the dreck you typically
hear on top 40 radio nowadays.

So Alan,

Seeing as how I missed out on the $99 deal and am reduced to looking at the unfortunately named "Audio Buddy" as a preamp upgrade to my ART, can you hook me up?
 
I have a VC6Q and a VC3Q. They sound very similar. I bought the 3Q originally for about $300 and I don't regret it.

For quieter passages, I'll grab the 6Q first, but for an aggressive, close-mic'ed electric guitar sound, there is little difference between the two. For $100 or even $300, it is well worth the price for that alone.

Tried it once on a guitarist with a very percussive rythm style ala Dave Matthews, and it worked extremely well due to the compressor's punchiness. Granted, it is slow as mollasses and like Alan mentioned, you do need to drive it pretty hard to get a really sweet sound out of it. So it's not necessarily the best unit for everything you throw at it.

Alan, if you were to include a limiter with every one of your units, you would really be on to something.

Providing a limiter is not hard. All we have to do is change the highest ratio point to 15:1 I have discussed this with Joemeek before. I am working on a circuit for a new Studio Projects unit, that will be micpre/compressor/Eq. I can't say much about the compressor because I am trying to do something different. Until I get it right, I must hold back, but I will let you know when it is cracked.

Sorry, there is nothing I can do. Did you ask GC if they have any more? Maybe E-bay...Keep watch on our Joemeek dent and scratch page to see what comes in. You never know.
