What's so bad about Audition?

I've not messed with Vegas, but I can't imagine what could be much easier than the multitrack workflow in Audition (I'm using 1.5). The mouse setting is selectable in 3 modes (including Hybrid). Perhaps I do not know since I've not used Vegas or whatever else, but I see what I need done and do it - never had a frustrating moment with it. Just my 2c. On the other hand, yeah, it has its shortcomings - ASIO, MIDI, Bus setup, etc. - but, it's still getting the job done for me. ;)
 
Don't forget that Audition 1.5 has some tools which are not available in any other program such as 'Frequency Space Editing' and the the 'Centre Channel Extractor' - but of course if you don't need those tools, you're not going to be influenced by that!
 
Cool Edit is the ish...

For Mixing, and Post production tracking...

pshh....

CEP/AA with some Waves plugins can hnag with the best of them...
 
i love aa.i kinda tried vegas,cakewalk an others but i dont think i ever gave them a chance~ but for me aa is it.so very simple for what i wanna do. i use fl studio for simple hip hop beats and vocals over that in aa. nice studio reverb does it for my vocals.....

I have an analog front end. I love mixing in cubase SX but I do all my tracking in Audition.

WHY?

Because it's so unbelievably simple and solid as a rock. Not to mention the better than good wav editor. I couldn't give a stuff about software plugs 90% of the time but when I do reach for them I'm already at the mixing stage and everything's been exported out of Audition and into cubase......WHY? Cause it's a hell of a lot more straight forward to set up send effects and inserts and groups, yada, yada, yada

Audition = Great tracking & editing

Cubase = Not so great tracking & editing but all the other bells and whistles you could ever want.......almost.

If you could track in audition and save and export as a Cubase session life wouldn't get much sweeter...not for me anyway.

That's what I'm saying. A good wave editor does not a package make. I can't justify shelling out for Audition when you can't even run VSTis in it. If I wanted something to do that, I'd buy Vegas anyway.

And yes, Cubase is a cow for tracking with. I get to use Pro Tools from September, we'll see if that's any better.
 
Lemon - how do you get Cubase to 'read' the session information when you transfer it from Audition? How do you get Cubase to open the session even?

I don't think he does - He was saying that if that was possible, it would be great. Unfortunately, it isn't possible. Correct me if I'm wrong on your meaning, Lemon.

Audition is not a package deal, like Vegas is. It caters to people who need to use it for tracking/editing/and mixing.

The cheapest version of Vegas is $450, and Audition is $300.

For the price, Audition cannot be beat for tracking/editing/mixing.

You don't like it, because you want it to do something it's not intended to.. That's not Auditions fault.
 
No, it's not just that. I was using it again today. My major beef is with the mouse - when you want it to scroll, it zooms and when you want it to zoom, it scrolls. When you want to place the cursor, it selects one side of a stereo clip. When you want to fiddle with one side of a clip, it moves the cursor around.

Me and it just don't get on. I'm not saying it's a terrible piece of software, I just don't think it's very good. You can get wave editors for peanuts and if you want intuititive tracking and easy mixing, Tracktion or Cubase SE will kick Audition on each of them.
 
you can sset the mouse to behave in a lot of different ways in Audition.

And the exporting thing.....

I just make sure all the tracks start in the same place...if I do a drop in while tracking I'll cut some silence from the dropin and pull it tight to the start of the window then mix down the dropin with the silence....givin me a track that matches up with all the other tracks.....then you have to import them one by one into cubase...pain in the arse but well worth it.

If I had more outboard gear I'd prolly just stick with Audition and say stuff it to everything else, I never did like MITB

If it cost £30 I'd buy it for the wave editor though .......... ;)
 
Mouse schmouse - can anybody name *one* common editor whose onboard effects (anything at all - EQ, compression, reverbs - whatever) sound better than Cool/Audition? *That* would impress me.

Noisedude - I'm curious about your impressions of Protools, though, when you get into it. I mean, that one actually costs more, right? But I bet it suffers from the old law of diminishing returns - I bet it works better, sounds better, and looks better - but nowhere near as better as the amount of extra money you have to pay for it. After you get your hot mitts on it, do a mini review. Do be a sharer. :)
 
I imagine you'll be right. To be honest, if Tracktion just had a bit more mixer and a bit more MIDI, it'd be all I need as a way of getting my creative work done.

However, as a project management platform, I wouldn't even begin to trust it if I was getting paid. I guess people pay for Pro Tools to get stability.
 
Noisedude, it sounds like you've got your 'snapping' setting wrong (or not the way you want them). If your setup is right, you should be able to place the cursor, or move a clip, with pixel accuracy, very easily.

and with plugins like Waves, CEP/AA is solid as a rock.

Its all in taste I guess...

Like dobro said, (and taught me for that matter :cool: )

learn CEP/AA's Parametric EQ, dynamic Processing, and Verb windows and your practically married to the program...

not to mention the easter eggs :D
