i had recieved in email from the runner of the forum. i think they dont have the money to keep anything up. but thats what im guessing, since thats the impression i got from the email.

Whether the threads are new or old or archived, bandwidth still costs money. It requires bandwidth to deliver the pages to your computer, no matter if the pages are new or just old ones made available. Tascamforums was eating up a ton of bandwidth because it quickly became a very popular place to surf.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback - guess I didn't think of the costs of maintaining the bandwidth.

However, the site will be back up and running December 14. Personally I have donated $15 as a 'donating member' to assist (who I now know as) Bruce in mighty and worthwhile endeavours.

Regards

The costs for running such forums can spiral out of control easily. I've hosted several over the years and with 5000+ users the bandwidth consumption can be painful to whoever gets the bill.

This is one of the problems with web-based forums, rather than email-based forums. To post a message on a webforum, takes almost 20 times the bandwidth as an email-based forum. Same for each viewing of the post, and each reply. But, they are easier to navigate and certainly much prettier, especially with the search features. So it's a tradeoff.

It's a shame, as Bruce did a nice job, but even with donations there was no way it was going to stay online for years and years. $2K a month is a big nut to swallow.

tascam used to have their own forums... TascamBBS.com, however they shut that down years ago.

how much bandwidth does a board have to use to rack up a $2500/month bill? I see a lot of hosts offering 500GB/month for $100......
