What's a Patch?

I ran a search for 'patch' and came up with 3172 matches.
Great.
One of the fantastic things about a 'huge' bbs is the archival info.
I went through about two hundred and found nothing of what I was looking for.
One of the pitfalls about a huge bbs is the massive extent of the results.

( That's my disclaimer)

Anyway,,,,
I bought a used Peavey 12 channel mixer. No manual.

Tons of nobs, plug-ins, gizmos and questions.

There is a whole row of nobs and inputs that are labled, "Patch".
There is an Aux out and some ins.

What are the patch nobs and jacks used for?
Thanks.

Yo Low Octane:]

Well, I guess there might be more than one denotation for the word, "patch" as it applies to our musical world.

One: You can patch in a reverb unit using an appropriate cable to your mixer and add the reverb when you mix down as most folks do.

Or: I call the sounds on my synthesizer "patches." I might be wrong doing that but I've heard other folks use the word that way.

I guess you could patch in an EQ box or compressor, etc.

I'm sure that Blue Bear will correct any error I have made here and I'll learn more.

Green Hornet:D :p :p :p

Heh, heh, Lt. Roberto:

I thought of a few of those too but I left them out.

Patch a bike tire?

Patch up a romance?

Patch me the meatloaf?

Is it an old mixer, they are usually labeled inserts now a days. Green is probably right, they are trs inserts to patch an eq, vocal processor, compressor, reverb. The "knob" is used to control how much of this effect you want to add to your signal. Hey, my peavey 8 channel mixer is labeled the same way, cool. But its about 20 years old!

That was my guess, Green Hornet.
I appraciate the help.

Quit smoking? You gots to be kidding? Some times you crack me up, Lt.

Mine is used, Jblount.

Thanks for the help guys.

I don't know about no 50's Doo Whop group, MISTERQCUE, in the early 60's there was a song called Patches though.
That brings back a memory to two.
