I'm going to be building some bass traps with a wooden frame.

I've looked at some DIY guides on the net and also read a bunch of articles on the RealTraps site.

I've never built anything before. I have no real experience with power tools. :o

What are some of the basic tools I'll need to build the traps? I think I have a couple drills, and a few other basic tools that I've used a couple times, but other than that I have no idea.

A lot of the terminology used in those guides goes right over my head, and I have no idea what they're talking about.

Here's one of the guides I was looking through:

What are those things on the corners?

Someone give me a hand. :(

Those things on the corners are fancy clamps that I now need to own :D

Basically you need stuff to measure (tape measure, pencil, carpenter's square) cut (saw), attach (wood glue, screws, nails, staples) and hold the pieces in place while you work on them (clamps, work table).

Your best bet would be to get somebody with some basic carpentry skills and tools to help you along. The tools alone can end up costing you more then the materials for your first couple projects.

Thanks, Tex. I have a bunch of that stuff already in my garage (minus the clamps, screws, and work table).

I don't know anyone that does carpentry, so I may try this alone or with a friend of mine, who also knows nothing about this stuff.

Are there any specific types of clamps I should get for bass traps? Like the ones shown in that picture? What kind are those?

Other than that I think I may go ahead and try it. Nothing to lose except a little money I guess.

I've never seen those specific clamps. You'll just have to go down to the hardware store and see what they have. If you got about 4 small C clamps (4") and 4 big ones (around 8-10"). If you can't find those corner clamps you can accomplish the same thing by putting a small block of wood in the corner and clamping both edge pieces to that.

With two of you doing it the clamps won't be as big a deal. If you are working alone they are a must have.
