at 14 I'd pay you in pizza, NO BEER!

Hah, well, true, it's not germany, but pizza? Maybe if they are like one of my best friends, but thoes guys and I are in a band, so charging them seems wrong anyway. As for that, in my age group, if I do a record for someone for a pizza or four then someone else will come to me and whine and bitch about it.

Well anyway, Alex said they are willing to pay, so maybe I'll just ask the guys in the band what they think is fair. They wouldn't be jerks about that, that's one of the few things I know about those guys.
I guess I'll figure something out.
If you have to ask this question you are signaling you don't know what you're doing. The pizza post is the most reasonable for you.

By the hour! and have a minimum block of time (4 hours) so people don't waste YOUR time!

$8.00 / hour.... come on, people at Mickey-D's make more than that! You've invested in the equipment and you/re providind a space. $100 minimum (4 hours) which is still a bargain no matter how you slice it.

If you're uncomfortable setting a realistic price, you're not ready to make the jump. If you need experience, it's a freebie, they're you're guinea pig!

Use the pig wisely!

I've never had a problem with the flat rate system. I usually end up having to tell the bands to take their time, because they're usually in too much of a hurry to get the cd to all of their friends. If things aren't flowing, you're either doing something wrong, or you need to tell the bands to go home until they have their shit together... in the nicest way possible of course :D. If I were to figure everything hourly, on average the bands usually end up getting a nearly free mixdown out of the deal. I'm alright with getting ripped off, because I'm 19, I'm doing it out of my house, and I've already got a full time job. If I can get some kids a decent demo to shop around to clubs, my work is done.
