B.SABBATH, I only barely glanced at the comments made before so I may be way off base.

I listened to "First Passing". Something about the flute/Ebow in the intro seemed just a little out of tune. As if there was some sustain on it that maybe pulled it just that little tad off. The guitar was very good though. The vocals are also done well just a little too low; I couldn't quite pull them out of the rest of the mix. The changes from about 2:00 to 2:30 were a bit confusing though until the talk box comes in and that works really well. Cool. Seems like the talk box is making a comeback from the old Frampton days. Again the change to strings at about 3:25 and then at 4:35 did not seem to fit. Possibly this song could be broken into more than one song. Unless you are going for a sort of concept approach. This is the only reason I would say it isn't finished. The sound over all is good. I would classify the song as metal, maybe not quite heavy metal. With a few interesting changes to grunge and alternative. Overall, good job.

I also listened to "The Whole Situation". It was kind of an Ozzy goes rap thing. I thought the words - the ones I could understand - seemed a bit aggressive. It too had a few mood twists. Maybe you have too many songs trying to come out of you at once.

langleyt,
It's kind of like when your sick...:)

Thank you for giving me such an intelligent response, and listening to an extra tune as well. Others have mentioned the begining sounding off too. I have to try and pay more attention to what I'm playing, rather than what I'm feeling. You are also right about it sounding confused.. it is, and I am. :) I listen to tooo many different types of music, and it's starting to confuse my own stuff. I keep the vocals low because I'm unsure of my voice sometimes, and I figure just blend it in with the music. It seems people think I should turn it up, so I will. Thanks for your tips.

About the other song sounding too aggressive, I'm all talk. I always vent through my tunes. Most people that know me say I'm tooo quiet and too nice. (except for the girl I'm dating, she says I'm an idiot.)

Half of them have never heard my tunes.

thank you again for your thoughtful comments and advice, I do appreciate you wasting some time.

thx

I haven't read the other reviews, so I hope I'm not restating anything too much...

I really like the E-bow and some of the backwards guitar effects your used....

To me, the vocals are good, but need to be brought up in the mix...

love the ebow cello breakdown......kinda unexpected....

I don't know what 'style' it would be.....Peter Frampton meets Metallica? lol The various parts of the song make me think old Metallica...

After the beat comes in after the ebow cello thing, it sounds like it's either the bass or a doubled cleaner guitar sounds a bit loud in the mix....it's a clean chorused guitar...it could be if you eliminated a bit of the low end, it wouldn't be as loud and would cut through better

another cool freaky thing there with the string sound....I don't know how you got it to sound so convincing...

I think the kick might be a bit too loud.....but it could be my speakers...it has alot of punch to it, but sounds as if it overloads at times...

very unique, bro....couldn't listen to stuff all the time, but it was a nice change, and I heard a bit of Ty in some of the ebow work!

GalacticCelt,

YOU KNOW I appreciated that comment.;) (even though we both know I'm unworthy of it) but thanks.

I hear what your saying about that clean guitar coming in a bit loud, I was gettin' into the "lezlie speaker" effect on the rhythm, and I guess I got carried away with it. I think this mix is definitly not done. Before I posted it here, I thought it may have been. Thanks for giving such detailed comments and tips. It was noted and appreciated.

thx

BTW "Frampton meets Metallica?" that's pretty funny. Glad you said "old Metallica" :)

sounds like you need to figure out what style your gonna play , they don't all work together but each one seperately is really good, maybe turn it into two songs.

thanks for checking in out Mr.S, I appreciate it. That's not a bad idea with the 2 song thing....

One more thing to think about.

thx agin

Hey, just gave your song a listen and I really enjoyed it. The main problem I found was that your vocals aren't loud enough. That was redundant wasn't it. As far as the different moods, I liked that.

I'm a fresh body on here and I have to admit I know zilch about mixing but I know what my ears tell me. Overall I'd give your song a thumbs up.

Also, even with the mellow portions of the song I would still classify this as metal.

Sammander,

Thanks for the comments, it is much appreciated.

It looks like a re-mix is in order. I'm not too into my voice so I tried to keep it out of the way. It's nice to hear people say I should turn it up. Thanks for the two thumbs up, it means a lot when you do the song by yourself. I wouldn't say you know "zilch about mixing" though, because you noticed the same thing that people who know about mixing noticed.... low vocals. ;)

thx again for taking the time

ok.. brutal it is...

Accoustic Guitar sounds a bit muffled... but not in a bad way..
Snare sounds weak. I didn't hear the kick...

Haha.. I like this.. :)

Dunno what to say.. I don't like the drums.. Some parts lack a bit in high end.. The distorted guitar sounds fake..

Just keep at it..

oh.. what kind of music is it? Lotsa kindsa music!

thx for checking it out. The begining was actually a keyboard and I tried to make it sound more like an acoustic by taking some high mids out of it. Maybe I over did it. The distorted guitar was my first experiment with a KorgG1. (used by Pantera *Dimebag D.) on a song called "floods." I don't use it too often. Still working out the drums but thanks for your comments, it was appreciated.

BTW, maybe a stupid question, but do you listen to the band "Meshuggah"? I asked you this before and you never answered.

OK here goes, didn't read the others yet, will do later :)

I like the song, good riffs \m/, guitars sound very good.
The vocal is a bit too buried imo and the drums could use a bit more punch.

On a production point of view I don't understand why did you use the string thingie, doesn't add anything to the song imo.

Good work overall.

Keijo

P.S. Reminds me of Ozzy :)

Warlock

 thx for checkin' it out.

I really don't know why I added the cello and the violins.
It seemed to sound right at the time.

Forget my tune and put up some of your new ones, I'm playin "Flamescapes" out. The sound you got with the female singer is what I've been trying to get at for a loooong time.

None of the females I know can sing.

thx again:cool:

B.SABBATH,

What everone said and more. Man that's interesting listening!!

I love the way it jumps around, Jimmy Page would be proud.

Must go listen again.

SABBATH

The strings sound good, but they just don't add anything to the arrangement imo.

On the female vocals:
She has been learning singing for like 10 years + she sang in a local choir.

Equipment wise we used U87 > Valley People Preamp > RNC > Terratec EWS88MT > Cubase.

Glad you like the song and the sound.
I will put up new stuff as we record some, we are putting together material for an album atm.

Keijo

Btw I'm still cranking "the hole situation" I like that song, it's just so dark and creepy, just the way like I like 'em :)

Keijo

Just wanna give a blanket thanks to everyone who took the time and responded..... I got a whole new way of looking at the tune and I learned a lot.

Thanks:cool:

BTW....... to anyone that didn't bother to respond............................ YOU STINK! :D

Wow...

One heck of a tune. Reflects my thought patterns. Mellow. ANGRY! Happy. MANIC!

Sabbath influence with a weepy "Shades of God" era Paradise Lost feeling. The strings and stuff add a nice modern doom edge, a la My Dying Bride, Thorns of the Carrion etc. but without all the deathgrunts. Spastic yet structured, lots going on without being densely crowded. Got that 70s sound and emotion with the modern sound. Now I'm repeating myself. Shame on you, Sam Adams! :p
