What power amp do/would you use for Event 20/20?

The speakers are 4ohm....an SOS review I read states, "Because loudspeakers often dip below their nominal impedance at certain frequencies, it is essential to use a good-quality amplifier, one that is rated to handle 4Q loads or lower."

If I use a 4ohm amp (like an Alesis RA 100) will that work ok? Should I be looking at the MUCH more expensive 2ohm, Mackie M800?

I've got the 20/20s with the Alesis RA-100, which gives me 100 watts into 4 ohms, and they sound fantastic! It's also very important to get good cables (I use Monster).

If monitoring is important to you (which it sure as hell should be) you will at least purchase Hafler! The P series stuff is a minimum you should consider for powering up your monitors for recording.

The RA-100 is purely junk in comparison. The studio I work at now used to have one, and the owner wasn't convinced of the difference until I brought in my P 3000 and let him use it for a week. He immediately bought a P 4000! :)

Warning! The P series amps are a bit expensive. Sorry, but you gotta spend some bucks to get quality.

Damn you, sonusman. I just bought a Hafler TA 1600, and you're telling me it doesn't even meet the minimum standard. It's all I could afford, though, and it beats the beejuice out of the home stereo receiver I was using.

Haf is just about the only acceptable option, 99.9% of other stuff doesn't make it (unless you can find an old Crown DC60 on Ebay)
 
Yes, sonusman, I've heard/read your "Buy cheap buy twice" edict many times. And I believe you.

But what's a guy to do? I spent a year's savings for a 797 CR998 mic and saved another year just to buy a $600 monitoring system. Now I have to save another year to buy a $500-700 preamp. I'm not exactly buying cheap. I AM doing my research and buying reasonable (affordable) gear. The Hafler TA 1600 wasn't exactly cheap at $300. Don't the famous Event 20/20s you (and many others) like so much cost $300? Doesn't the ART Tube MP you work your magic with cost under $100?

Good products can be found for not a huge loot of money, as you yourself, have proven.
 
Sonusman and sjoko2 are probably absolutely right about Hafler amps. But there are weight categories in boxing.
If you are stuffing a professional studio and have a proper budget for that purpose you probably would not buy RA100.
But if you are trying to built a decent home studio in one of the rooms without blowing family budget, then RA100 or TA1100 should work just fine.
P4000 is surely better than RA100 but it is not fair to compare those two.

Sorry, if I upset you Buck. You DID mention Hafler first (in this thread).
BTW, which Hafler did you mean? Sonusman said that anything below P is beyond minimum requirement. :)
