Let's talk about all the plugins you really want or have already. And which ones you think are the best.

Wish I had: Izotopes' Ozone, Antares Mic Modeler.

Hey Barefoot, I've heard that there are places you can download different "spaces" that have already been modeled for the Accoustic Mirror. Do you know where someone might go to get some of them?

Waves Native Gold Bundle

To users of this plug in, please provide answers to the following:

1. Exactly what is it that you like most about this plug in?

2. What do you use it for?

3. What are comparable or competative plug ins and what, if anything, makes the Waves more desirable?

4. What are the relative stresses on the system, which ones require the most juice, which ones can be used with Digital Performer and a Mac G4.

UAD-1. No contest. I've read on other boards about most powered plugins are a step beyond even WAVES or TC because they can make the algorthms so much more complex than something designed for native processing. Only drawback is it doesn't have tons of plugins with it. Just reverbs, compressors and eqs, I think. But what else do you really need? These are the hogs and most other stuff can just be run native. I really can't understand why there isn't a bigger buzz here about powered plugins.

Maybe because DSP cards are expensive and have a way of becoming quickly obsolete? No question, writing software for a dedicated DSP is 9 times out of 10 going to give a performance edge, for a little while, but native apps have major cost, compatibility, and transportability advantages.

I've only downloaded the ones from Sonic Foundry so far, but I'm sure there must be a users group out there somewhere sharing impulse responses. I've been busy experimenting with my own, so I haven't taken the time to look. . And it's much more than just reverb modeling. You can model amps, mics, or whatever.

When I first used Acoustic Mirror I didn't like it much. But now I love it. I guess that's a good thing, because I often have the same reaction with a lot of my all time favorite music.:)

I wish I had Slackmaster2000's Suck Knob...but, alas, it is not yet in the RTAS format!!! :)

Versatility and quality. It gives you everything you'd need from eq's to compressors, to reverbs, delays, you name it. And everything is among the best in it's class in terms of plugs.

2. What do you use it for?

Compressing (RCL), Limiting (ultramaximizer), eq-ing, de-essing, delaying, and dithering.

3. What are comparable or competative plug ins and what, if anything, makes the Waves more desirable?

Two of their plugs are best in their class - the RCL compressor and the L1 Limter. Everything else they make is probably among the best, and nothing really sucks. What makes Waves more desirable is you get everything together in one package.

Among the competitors, I think Sonic Timeworks makes a better reverb (but not by much) and a better EQ (again not by much).

4. What are the relative stresses on the system, which ones require the most juice, which ones can be used with Digital Performer and a Mac G4.

Not sure on that one, but I know all verbs are pretty taxing, and Waves' is no exception.
