It all depends on the accoustics of your room, Rush.

It's easy for Harvey and others like him to gush over the sound of a small-diaph. omni-directional condenser because it brings out the lush sound usually achieved by a substatial investment (well over $30K, I would imagine) in accoustical design, treatment, and reinforcement.
Well, I'm flattered but our "B" studio is hardly a $30K investment - it's two small 10' x 11' bedrooms, converted to a studio and drum room, in a doublewide mobile home.

We tore out the dividing wall and replaced it with 2"x6"s, heavily reinforced, and tore apart a couple of sliding glass doors to make the window between the rooms.

My son Alex found some almost new carpet in a dumpster behind a big hotel, and we covered the 6" thick wall after putting 3/4" MDF particle board on the studs. The ceiling is only 7' tall. We mounted six 6' office divider panels (we got for $5 each) to swingout "L" brackets I bought at the hardware store for $1.79 each. The panels have Corning 603 sound deadening insulation in them.

I was pretty creative in the control room, building a 6" raised floor (that was open at one end to act as bass traps). We used some old wooden pallets that we found in back of a store and covered that with 3/4" MDF.

We've cut some serious stuff in the small room and had some serious radio play nationally off a few records.

But our room treatment didn't cost $30K; it was probably less than $300.

Ooooh yeeeaaa ! ! ! That's what I'm talkin' about. That was my idea, too. Only I can't, for the live of me, find any of the office divider panels, and I have like 100 used office furniture stores in my city. :( Aarrrghh ! ! Thanks for sharing that tidbit, Harvey.

Try the used office furniture places. Should be a ton of them in your area. And Salvation Army stores.

Damn.... In my area there's a web site where people are begging other people to take them away for free!!

They make great GOBOs also!

Post some pics in the studio building forum, some of us would be delighted to see what is possible with $300
