Well im just starting my recording studio and have everything( pc, Fruity Loops, interfase, and preamp)so all i need is a mic, just for vocals. Can anyone tell me where to start cuz im really lost. Should I get a condenser mic? I'm lookin to spend around $100 maybe not much more cuz im on a tight buget. So do yall know of any cheap mics for cheap?

Tell us what you do - kind of music, kind of voice, what else you will use it for, etc.....

In the meantime...read the stickys at the top of this mic forum and start reading all the other threads that catch your eye as well. There's a wealth of info here that has already been said 100 times or more - so the search function is great too when you start to research products.

As always though....go to the music store and try the mics and buy the one you like best. We can only recommend stuff ...and you need to take that at face value, which is to say - everyone is different.

Anyway - let us know what you do and Im sure you'll get responses about stuff to try..

Thanx i'll try reading other posts to get info as well.

Basically i'm a rapper. I have a good voice( i sing in my schools choir )but I do hip hop and rap music.

Yea it helped a little in which ones were good for what voices.

But im still lookin for a mic under $100 and i really dont have too many options.

If you only intend on using the mic for recording, a condensor mic is for you. If you ever want to perform with it, you'd probably want to get a dynamic mic. Assuming you just want to record, here's some good possibilites ($100.00 or less)

Studio Projects B1 Large Diaphragm Studio Mic

Marshall Electronics MXLV63M Studio Condenser Mic

Audio-Technica AT2020 Large Diaphragm Cardoid Condenser Mic

Those are just a few of the more recognized studio vocal mics. There are other that are cheaper, but you usually get what you pay for. As for dynamics, the Shure SM58 dynamic vocal mic would be best. Thats the industry standard. If you're really serious about your music, look for some decent used mics. You can get a 200 dollar mic for 70-120 dollars often.

I'de say you can't go wrong with the SP B1 or the AT2020 for vocals. If you spend time reading here you will find this to be the case with many others who have made purchases in your price range.
