What compressors do you use for bass recording? I'm going to buy a compressor just for bass recording, and I'm looking for any opinions.

thanks,
jp

JP, bass is not an instrument dynamic enough to require compression, as a rule of thumb. Compression is used to limit the dynamic excursions of signal levels, and bass, even hard slap bass, doesn't do that very much. Some compression can be used for an effect, but I have to believe if you want better bass tracks and you have the money, there must be something more useful to buy. Compression is for things that keep going from quiet to loud, and messing up tracks, especially vocalists.-Richie

Actually, IME, bass is (or can be, rather) dynamic enough to require compression. It's very common for bassists to use compression pedals etc. when playing live.

It's gonna depend upon the player and the style, of course - and how consistent the player is. But, you'd be surprised just how dynamic the bass guitar can be.

PS I assume you're talking about bass guitar here?
