This drummer was AWESOME to work with....I did 8 songs total. All tracking is done except for the vocals for 4 of them. I started playing around with it some today. I think I want to retrack the vocals in the beginning of this one. With my setup, I cant see the person recording, and I didnt realize he was standing about 4 feet from the vocal mic (that explains the low levels during tracking though). It still gave me something to work with. Any comments????

thanks...

What it was will never be....

I like the tune man. Don't have any real mix advice, as I'd be happy with this myself. Vocals sound pretty good to me. I might have to move 4 feet back from my mic....or probably just shut it off.... :D

Anyway, nice tune. Drums sound pretty big. I dig it man.

Wonder how I knew you'd be the first to respond....:p Thanks for the comments as always.... I still want to work on the bass. Im REALLY happy with the drums... MK-012 overheads, e-604's on 3 high toms and one floor tom, ATM29HE on snare, and kick is triggered. guitars are a blend of several mics (609, 57, 3035, B1) and a direct from a Behri V-amp, doubled. Bass was blend of same mics and DI'd through the instrument in of my Octane.

pretty good.

nice song. I like the chorus melody

the vocals have too much high end though and not enough midrange substance

Hey thajeremy,

I enjoyed the listen, I think the song definitely came alive after the first minute!
The guitars sound sweet to me and are sitting in the mix beautifully.
The vocals have been captured very well, maybe at the beginning some retracking but no big deal there!
The drumming is awesome, nice playing. I would like to see a little less mids on the toms and kick, reducing the slight boxiness and flatness for a better word! The kick just needs a bit more bottom end thump I think, some 50-100hz boost at 1-2db maybe!

I am going back for another listen........Nice Work!

Hi thajeremy,
Give the vocals some belly & they'll be fine - the overall sound reminds me of PAW. "Jessie" was a counter culture hit down here.
I think you may start a trend - "not close micing".
With the overall sound a little boost at 125, 250, 8, & 16 khz REALLY adds some power - ?
I get the feeling in some of the OTTop vocal parts that the vocalist is sticking his tongue out a la Gene Simmons or probably more accurately given he's singing as well - like a maori warrior - say it isn't so.
Well done fun.
Cheers
