what is a good control surface for a DAW

basically i just hate mixing through my daw by clicking the mouse and etc...
i want to have a mixer-type control surface infront of me that i can control my tracks with.
what is a decent one that allows me to control individual track's volume and effects as well as the master track?
i already have an m box so i dont think it's necessary to invest in a mega mixer
 
I purchased a Novation SL MkII 61 four days ago for the same reason and I'm very satisfied with it so far. Being a complete newbie, there is a challenging learning curve. I'm just beginning discover what this baby will do, and I like what I see. It is much much better than the mouse for me and the keys have a nice feel as well. Hope I not too late in responding to your question.
 
Just my two cents but after several control surfaces, and the "coo" feeling wore off, I ditched 'em in favor of the surgical precision of keyboard shortcuts and my mouse. Way better for me. I use reaper though and it lends itself nicely to my method of workflow.
Just spend some time thinking about it it is all I am saying, some people are the opposite.

PreSonus Faderport is a cheap way to get a high-quality fader...
 
Has anyone ever tried the tascam us-2400? Thinking about buying one.
 
That's a very good question. I just traded a Frontier Alphatrack for a Akai mpk49. The alphatrack only had 1 fader, I wouldn't suggest that, you need multible faders. the mpk49 is to much of a headach, so i'd stay away from midi as well. so I'm still looking as well.

Its my first post and apologise if my topic is not related to this thread.
My system config is below. I work with either cubase or nuendo for music and post production respectively. I use loads of VSTi, and rewire some programs like Ableton suite, Reason 4, Halion, etc.. I just want to know if I buy a Projectmix (As I was looking to buy profire 2626 or projectmix) for the advantage that its both audio and control surface, will I be able to use it in my Host as well as my Rewire applications? For example, if my host daw is Nuendo or cubase, I open number of instruments in reason and ableton, shifting from host to rewire to edit an instrument while be supported with PM?
How is the preamps?

Hope someone can help me clear this doubt.
