what happened?

Yesterday I hooked up my new behringer b1 to an +48v phantom power box, and then put that directly into my 1/8 " input jack on my computer's SBAudio port. Now the input jack doesn't work. I don't get any signal at all from the microphone, and I'm unable to record anything with my computer, (unless I use that 1/8" port in the back...bleh...).

My quandry is: "Could the phantom power from the box have conducted back the the input jack on my computer and overloaded/blown something?"

....kindly remember to be nice to your system. plug everything in first and then turn it on. unplug everything...check to see if the phantom power box has a fuse..you might have blown it....as for the jack...it think it'll work if you get the phantom power box working again.

the phantom power works dandy. Just the computer/input jack won't cooperate.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure the phantom power only runs between the box and the mic, after that it should just be the audio. Most likely the 1/8" jack has broken a connection from the printed circuit board. Some places don't solder them too well. I've never found them very reliable connections anyway. How many audio players have you had where the phone plug started crapping out. Same jack.

Is the input on your soundcard a mic input? It's probably a line input. Your microphone needs a preamp in addition to phantom power. If it is a mic input, it's probably designed for those cheap computer mics, so it wouldn't work with your microphone anyway.

There is an internal pre-amp! I've been recording with that same equipment for over a year with great results. I just know that before I tried to plug in that cord, (attatched to the phantom power box), everything worked fine. Now the jack won't work at all. The mic cords work fine, using my dynamic mic, into an amp, so i think it is not a cord problem, yes?

The B1, however doesn't work (when all connected to the amp. I think maybe I bought an e-bay lemon...)

Most likely, as the gentleman above said, I think a soldered connection finally came undone. It makes sense to me, anyway.
Any other thoughts are of course welcome.
