I don't understand the resistance here to buying gear that retains value. Who knows or cares why you might have to sell something in the future. If it holds it's value then you got it for free all those years. That's much better than $50/year.
I just can't stomach buying gear that costs more than a grand new. You are always going to lose about 10-20% on anything new when you go to resell it. But if you buy it used after it's taken that first depreciation you might be able to sell it for what you payed.
