I just took a few of my guitars to the shop to get set up, because of the weather change. He did a great job. He's rates are pretty stiff though. I was just wondering what you guys pay?

Between £50 and £80 depending on the guitar. Extra work as a result of the setup checklist advised before hand when possible and charged at parts plus labour.

I have at least 20 stringed instruments, mando's, Octave, bass, guitars.
I don't charge myself anything, I feel I deserver a break.
I use to be constantly setting one up it seems like. But now I have multiple saddles for all of my acoustics along with humidifiers, dehumidifiers so I don't spend much time at all making adjustments like I use to. The only thing I waste my time on is building them. I have a Octave Mando Kit begging to be built and a custom strat that is amost ready to take it's first breath.

I would imagine a setup price would depend on what needed to be done, and on what type of instument. I would like to think you could find some one who might do a light adjustic on a adjustable bridge and perhaps make a slight adjust on a truss rod for $25 - $35. Then again it could be a acoust that needed the same thing but on an convention saddle where perhaps and new one would be needed and intonated for atleast twice that. Then again you could have a setup that required a new nut to be cut and installed along with the previous for items. This could run you alot more.

Muttley, did you get your hard drive installed?
Yep, after much gnashing of teeth I found a workaround or rather my brother did. Owe him a beer or six next time I see him. PVR all setup and running no more VHS :D

Hate to be picky but that isn't a setup it's an adjustment.

Yeah, Im talking about a setup the neck / brigde/ intonation and all.

I got the action raised/guitar setup for $15. If someone charges you $15 for a setup (which seems to be the standard around here) at least make sure they know what they're doing. And don't feel bad paying a good deal of money if they do a good job. :(

Edit: Maybe getting the action raised isn't technically a 'setup' but that's how he wrote it on the receipt. And also for a truss rod adjustment on my electric (at a different shop). It also had 'setup' on the receipt. The guitar's worthless now. :/

I typically charge 50-60 bucks for a complete setup.

I seem to be the only one in this state that has any comprehension of how a floating tremelo should be setup.

I payed $80.00-$90.00 a guitar. Maybe I should find someone else.

A good question to go along w/ this post would be... What is included in a setup?

Thats a good price if the shop know what they are doing.

This thread has been hashed out in the past and as with most things in life you get what you pay for. There are a lot of people who really don't understand what a good setup is worth.

No disrespect meant at all Danny but that 15 bucks has cost you at least another $80 to put it right. Not to mention all the agro thats gone with it:(

Yea it has. :( Lesson learned though. :o

80-90 is high for my neck of the woods. I know 3 phenomenal techs who do setups between $45-$60. One of these guys was the main USA QC guy for Dean to boot.

Then there is the guy on Craigslist who advertises complete setups w/ restring for $15..... in this case you would certainly be getting what ya pd for!

I don't have a shop. But you can get this fine piece of ass for as little as $5.95.

Catually I needed the action adjuste don my acoustic and I took it back to the place I got it...they did it as a freebie, which was cool of em.

Little tweaks I can do as I chat with clients are something I do as standard. Its good for returning customers and recommendations.

I'm new to electric guitars. What are they changing or adjusting?

Yeah, they said it when I bought it that it might need an adjustment in 6 months, was decent of them though.
