What do you use for monitoring playback?

Sorry about the omission of Mac playback option. Please substitute Mac for PC , if you will, and describe your set up.

What kind of soundcard? What kind of monitors? What kind of cans? ETC...

I dump my tracks on my PC, and monitor on Yorkville YSM1P, via integrated soundcard. I do intend to get a REAL soundcard, as I've been told that their is a huge difference.

I am using Fostex VF 80 and am using Yorkville YSM1P's
as monitors. I think I will be getting a VF 160 in the near future.

Fostex VF80: Alesis monitor 1 MK2s

For the cheap set, I know...

Surprised to see in the poll that most use headphones...I do understand though. I finally have a deticated mixing area with some JBL's (studio type) speakers-very nice quality, and some big home speakers with 12" woofers-plus head phones....Gives a nice combo of sounds.

Dump tracks from the MR-8 to the PC and use my Fostex PM 0.5 monitors. Still using a Soundblaster live for a sound card.

(Just got the speakers 2 days ago so I'm still getting used to them!)

I use a pair of $25 Sony headphones during tracking and rough mixing. Then I use Event PS6 monitors for final mixing.

Track to a HD24, dump the tracks into a PC/ Cakewalk9 through a MOTU 2408 mkII to edit, back to the HD24 to mix through my console (Tascam M3500). I monitor through Yorkville YSM-1's and JBL4311's. I'm not picky about headphones. I have about 10 pairs of Aiwa HP X223's. Decent isolation and they don't fold over to badly when pushed hard. I've had too many pairs destroyed by clients to spend more than $30 on a pair of headphones.

For recording:
VF160 --> Samson Resolve 65A or AKG K240s

For mixing
PC --> Audition 1.5 --> --> Emu 1212m --> Samson Resolve 65A

VF-16/MR8 for tracking and use either some cheap ($25-$30) cans or a pair of Edirol MA10DBK Digital Powered Studio Monitors.

Dump into laptop using either card reader (MR8), Lightpipe, or CDRW and mix using the Edirols.

My next investment will be for some Wharfedales or Events... Or perhaps Yorkvilles? How are the YSM's?

Using VF80 to record -- Yamaha headphones, then dump to nTrack on PC, where I use Roland MA-8.

Don't be embarrassed, y'all -- we live in the real world, with sleeping kids, neighbors, families, etc...

The YSM-1s are very useable. I'm on my second pair.
