Mixing is very difficult for me, especially the low end. What do you think of the bass and kick drums on this and how could I improve them?
Thanks for your time,
Thanks for your time,
Wow Chris, I really dig the tune. I'm already subscribed to your channel but I hadn't seen this one before. Nice job!
As for the low end on the drums I think they sound pretty good actually. I'm no expert so maybe someone else can give some advice, but I find that the guitars are a little more "forward" in the mix. It sounds like the drums are a little too quiet or "behind", which is a problem I have with my mixes as well. I'm not sure how to fix that (I'd love to be able to adjust my mixes as well) but that's about all I hear that could be changed.
Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff and seeing the answers to your question here.
Hey, buddy. I work in a somewhat similar fashion. A lot of those EZ Drummer kits just don't sound very good or natural. The kit you're using is ok, but even the hi-hats just sound generic and fake. I started using the Metal! expansion and specifically the Death Metal Tom Town kit that is included. I haven't even upgraded to EZ Drummer 2 yet although it looks interesting. Some people just don't like the sound of any metal kits, so we'll leave it at that.
Here's a clip of something I'm working on so you can hear the kit I'm using. I would say it's a noticeable difference yet with certain qualities that the kit you're using has as well, but it's up to individual preference on which sounds better. Mixing is hard for me too, but I think there are better kits that just have more power in the EZ Line.
This has really clean production and very similare to many thrash metal band in the genre (which as your request on mixing commentaries is a good thing). My ony complaint is bass guitar could of been louder or have more distortion to help put heavy in the low end.
Thanks Xcaliber! Do you have any music up on Youtube or soundcloud I could check out?
Can the "forwardness" of the drums or guitars in the mix be adjusted by shaving off or boosting the really high frequencies? That the only thing I can think of, but I am operating at an amateur level so my knowledge is limited.

Ok DM60, thank you.
