I posted this in my small diaphragm condensors thread, but it didn't gte much response, so I started a new thread for it:

I don't see much about the AT3035, or about alot of AT mics around here. I just purchased an AT3035 for vocals, and really like it so far, but didn't have a chance to compare it with a lot of mics I wanted to try - the places I went to didn't carry them.

Anyway, what do you guys think of the AT3035 for vocals? I know alot of people like the C1, which I didn't get to try - how do they compare?

I'm looking to get another vocal mic soon that is $200 or under - one that is a little less bright than the AT3035. Should I like at the Marshalls? or what?

Thanks in advance!

ive gotten some pretty descent

results using the at3035. It is a bit bright as youve pointed out but it really can yield descent results with the right singer.
You may want to check out the studio projects b1 or the mxl v67 for under 200 dollars. The b1 is alot more neutral sounding than the At3035 and is under 100 dollars. Ive never used the v67 but alot of people on here recommend them. For under 100 bucks you cant really go wrong with either one.
Try searching again, you should be able to find something on ALL of these mics. There are only a half dozen post a day asking the same questions about these same mics.

If you get into nice preamps, then dynamics are a good way to start heading.

To me, nice is something like the Grace 101 or FMR RNP and on up in price.

A Shure SM58 sounds real nice through one of the above.

I bought a Studio Projects B1 as an amp mic. I think it's a great mic but I've yet to like a vocal through one.

We A/B'ed a bunch of mics tonight for fun through an A Designs MP-2 and a Great River MP-2NV.

The AT4040 came off as a real stunner. You might look at it. The other mic we liked was an EV RE20. It's a dynamic mic that requires a lot of gain.

Ozraves, what kind of vocals have been run through the B1? For me, the B1 works best on rock style material. As always, this could be
different for other singers, as you know.

Chris--

We've tried it on Rock and Country vocals and through some very nice preamps. We even tried it on Native American storytellers. I like it on acoustic guitar and on guitar amps as I've said repeatedly.

We thought it might work out as a dialog mic but it didn't pan out for that use.
