What do drummers expect

hey.. a delta card with 4 ins will work... i used to be in that situation... just dont tell them u cant have a track for each mic.. just group the appropraite tracks... get a mixer with 10 pres... dont tell the band the waeakness... most ppl wont look at the back of ur mixer and see how u are using the outputs..get a good sound with the drums.. and makeu sure levels are set good.. it will work

I recorded drums to a single stereo track from the mixer for the past 3 years. You can get good results if you take the time to submix everything correctly. You will not be able to add any compression to single drums or anything, but it will work.

Just do that and don't charge much, if you even do.

Currently, I'm using a Terratec Phase 88. 8ins/outs. It's working well. I'm hooking up a few of my friends' bands for free. Experience is useful.

Ya I was kind of expecting that I would be free until I got my name out a bit. The problem with being free is then you don’t get the needed moneys to upgrade the equipment but you need the upgraded equipment to charge... It’s kind of starting sound like the old Bill and Teds movie?

“We need Eddie Van Halen… Ya but to get Eddie we need a righteous video… dude, but to make a totally righteous video we need Eddie Van Halen… bogus

I’m kind of thinking that I may just upgrade my drum mics and deal with the 4 channels for now. I’m going to need the additional/better mics when I upgrade the sound card anyway. Wow, my whole studio is a complete parallel to the first scene of Bill and Ted’s.

Here's another perspective, I own a 6 ply mahoghany Slingerland rehersal set in my home studio. When I'm well rehersed and ready to record I go to a guy who has a nice 3 room home studio
with a Yamaha maple kit all set up miked and ready to go. His drums sound great. I get the drums [ I bring my DW kick pedal,
and sticks ], the engineer, and 48 track hard disk recording with pro tools ediiting for 30.00 per hour. I've even cut drum tracks at his place and taken a wav or data file to larger studios to finish the project. I'm always trying to jusify purchases for my home studio because where I live 30.00 to 60.00 will get you alot.
Some have 72 tracks or more. It's hard to compete.

hehe 4 would be great for me! I home-record with my band to make demos and stuff and I get 2 inputs if im lucky! One SM58 overhead and random £10 mic in the bass drum. Sure it doesnt sound great it does the job for us and gets us gigs. If you wanna hear some to show you the recording quality:

I love that movie. We use to watch that movie all the time when I was in the service. I let my son (11 yo) see it a while back he thought it was pretty cool. He said "Dad, why is Neo talking like that" then he was walking around saying everything was most excellent :D :D :D :D :D

"Those are historical babes"
