yea, but i use 3-5k for a slap sound in the kick

where are you placing your kick mic?

an akg d112 inside the kick, several inches from the beater will give you very little bleed.

Then your drummer must be really bashing those cymbals!

You could try gating the kick, then....

will also give you less low end.

Put a nice thick blanket over the kick drum.
