I am at a loss. I can NOT decide what color to have my Fender Strat re-finished in. Right now, it is Fiesta Red w/ a white pickguard (Yuck!) and it has many scratches, and a few gauges in the wood and finish. So I wanted to get her re-done to reflect my style and musical genre more.

I play music like, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, The Band, The Rolling Stones, but also, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Radiohead.

Anyway, at first I was thinking that I would paint it black, and have a black and white pearly/marble-like/bowling ball-ish pickguard with White pickups and knobs. Because it looked cool as hell when Steve Van Zant (from Bruce Springsteen's E-Street band). But then I got to thinking, that it might just be too dark, and wouldn't 100% reflect what I am about. I guess a sunburst would be the best color. BUT... and this is a HUGE "BUT!!!" I can't do sun-burst. There are several reasons why not. The wood isn't pretty enough. There are gauges into the wood that even when filled would still look nasty. It is too expensive. No one around here knows how to do it well. And the list goes on and on. And plus I just want a normal solid opaque color.

What are some color schemes on your most memorable Strats. Or hell Les Pauls and everything for that matter. I recently saw a Telecaster that was finished with a Gibson Les Paul gold-top finish, and it looks FABULOUS. I don't want a solid gold Strat, but it looked great on that Tele. So any guitars that spring to mind as being classic looking. Please tell me what you think.

Hehe, I kinda like the new splatter strats, though I'm pretty sure they're discontinuing them. Still, I'm sure you could find somebody who'd be happy to randomly splatter paint all over your pretty guitar. :p

I always thought the plain wood grain finishes on strats looked nice, but I guess if your wood is ugly, there's not a whole lot you can do about it. I'd probably never get any of my guitars repainted/refinished for the mere price factor; all the unique/awesome colors cost waaaaay to much to be worth it, not to mention finding somebody out there who can do them properly is just a major pain. If I were to repaint a solid color, I'd probably just have to go with some odd color that's not common at all, like bright orange with a black pickguard, or maybe even a great neon green. What would be really neat, would be to do half the guitar one color, and have a solid line down the middle where the guitar divides into another color.

Anyway though, I guess it's all just personal preference so, uh, good luck? :o

ive never seen it but i could imagine it would look pretty cool if a strat was painted light blue or a sea foam green and had a black pickguard.

just thought id throw that idea out there
