Dude - you need to listen to some and see what you prefer first! I know where you're coming from but I went and gave these a good listen amongst about five other sets and they were third on my shortlist afterwards. To me they sounded a touch plasticky and I couldn't hear some stuff on them that I could hear on the ones I did buy.

That's a good point. I'll have to run to guitar center and listen to a few.

I'm not saying they're not good, but definitely have a listen beforehand so you know what you're buying. Lots of people wouldn't choose what I chose, but if I can work with them then that's great. They have to double as my main hi-fi speakers to so it helps if I like how they sound ;)

Alright! I'm ready to act....

I've been watching this thread for a while now; it's been very interesting. I'm planning on buying my first pair of monitors, and from everything I've read here and elsewhere about the Wharfedale Diamond Pro 8.2a I think i'd like to give em a try. All this talk about non-flattering, brutal flatness and great stereo imaging has got me piqued.

I'd like to hear them if possible. I'm in Baltimore; does anyone know where I could go?

Deepwater seems to be the hook-up for homerec. posters; Could you, kind sir, send me info on price ($275/pair?), shipping, return policy, warranty info, etc.? When I went to the Wharfedale Pro site a window popped up warning me that the company only provides its warranty thru authorized dealers. I believe you wrote that you were authorized? Just wanna make sure.....

I believe Deepwater also wrote that the passive 8.2's have been discontinued. Do you think that there was any substantial diffenerence in quality between the two? For some reason, I've been left with the impression that going the passie route is better overall for quality per $, upgrade, etc.

Thanks! This is my first post, hee hee!

Well, with money I received for Christmas (took a few pre-Xmas hints to family), I just ordered the 8.2a monitors and the Wharfedale R-1604 mixer from deepwater. I anxiously await.

Geez, with all the orders coming from HR members, deepwater is soon gonna be a rich man.:) The deal is good, so all the power to him!

Got my passive 8.2 monitors

I've had my passive 8.2 monitors for over a week now and have mixed down a couple of songs with them. These are not the "pro" model. I've got the black ones with the yellow cones--apparently the only difference between these and the diamond pro passives are that mine are not shielded. Nevertheless, I've got them about 4" from my computer monitor without any problems so far. I'm powering them with an Onkyo amp.

I'm really thrilled with them. I must prefice my review by admitting that I've never had good monitors before. I was mixing with hi-fi equipment before. These are a considerable step up. They sound crystal clear and are very revealing. I can hear each instrument in the mix more clearly and the imaging is very good. On my first mix I didn't get the bass levels set very well when I played it back on other systems. Just a matter of learning the sound of the new monitors. On the second mix I got it right, so I'm getting there. I certainly don't have the expertise of many of the people who post here, but will say that these have been terrific for my needs.

Not much longer and you'll have your gear. I don't know about rich - just a little gas money

I wonder if that's why Wharfedale isn't responding to my e-mails..... I bought my pair from Dolphin Music in the UK on the 16th of December. I noticed a problem with the tweeter on one of mine after I received them and was told by Dolphin Music that it would be cheaper just to replace the tweeter myself because I'd be responsible for shipping to them. That same week, I sent the service manager for Wharfedale UK an e-mail explaining the problem and he responded within two days with a short e-mail telling me to get in contact with the distributor in France, which is where I'm located. Well, it's several days later and I haven't received an answer from the French distributor. I sent another e-mail to the service manager in the UK as well as an e-mail to the German distributor and just for good measure, yesterday I sent another e-mail to another distributor in France at the same company. the only reply I have received so far was from the UK service manager and he didn't answer any of my questions.

At this point, all I want is to know the product number and a place where I can BUY a replacement tweeter! I have no idea if Dolphin Music is an authorized dealer or not, but the least Wharfedale could do is give me an adequate answer to my questions. Customer satisfaction and service should be important to a company.

I hate to heat that. Service is great in the US. I just call the service department and they send out a replacement with a return shipping label for the bad one.

He's right - although that's never helped me with Behringer. They're a whole different league crap service-wise though ... ;)

Get a hold of the Wharfedale Sales Rep for your area. Call Wharfedale and ask for sales and ask them for the # to the Sales Rep firm in your area.

I just received an e-mail from the UK service manager saying that they had been contacted by Dolphin Music and are sending them a tweeter. Hopefully, Dolphin will send me the tweeter once they receive it.

Don't hesitate to get on the Blower to Dolphin and find out where your Tweeter is....the more you call them (be polite ofcourse) they are gonna get sick of you and wanna get that tweeter to you fast so you stop with the endless calls.... :)

If Dolphin is taking care of your request, give them a fair amount of time before you start barraging them with phone calls. Maybe give them one call and confirm some dates and times. After that time is up, then start pestering them.

Hey deepwater, I just shot you out an email about getting pair.

Also, what's a good sub to use with these?

There is a Wharfedale sub that looks quite good. I have a friend who uses it as part of his surround sound system (with Blue Sky satellites!!) and it seems decent. Also a stury piece of furniture ... would work as a coffee table?

Just as an FYI, Bananas At Large will do a price match... $299 a pair, including freight (to my Oregon zipcode), for the Pro 8.2 active monitors, and they have them in stock.

ZZounds wanted more documentation for the price match, so I just moved on.

So it looks like there are at least two retail sources for these monitors for around $300 delivered.

Oh - and no - I don't work for either Deepwater or Bananas At Large! ;)

I think the same goes for Canada, too. I had an issue with my tweeter, and getting the replacement was as simple as
1) contacting my dealer (Thanks Deepwater!!!)
2) signing for the package three days later.

I'm not trying to fan any flames, but I love my Wharfedales, and even with the tweeter issue, the whole experience buying from Deepwater has been the least painful online purchase of my life.

Some of you guys were wondering about the Wharfedales versus the Yorkville YSM1P's.
I happen to have some YSM1P's at my studio which I've used extensively and love to pieces. I'm currently in the process of getting some Wharfedale's from deepwater for my house so I can mix here (I would've just gotten some more YSM1P's if I could afford them, but this way gives me another reference point anyway!)

I'll definitely let you guys know my impressions when I get them. I also have experience on Mackies, Genelecs, ADAMs, Events, and Dynaudios. Just as a point of reference, the YSM1P's sound most similar to Genelecs and ADAMs, and are definitely better than Mackie HR824's. I'm guessing the Wharfedales are a slightly darker flavour. We'll see though!
