Buy some - I'm interested to hear how those ESIs sound because they're super cheap and so would do as a pair of 'utility' monitors or more accurate hifi speakers. Digital Village have been pushing them big time.

ok i will hear the new esi experience in a /b with warfedale 8.2 next time. will buy both and send one back

ok it would be better to hear them with 8.1 but i have none
same price range & woofer.

The ones on mine are so bright they reflect off my glasses and hurt my old man eyes. So I covered them with electricians tape.
Yeah, those blue LED's are bright. I did the same - covered 'em with some tape. I was careful not to cover the clip LED - that one you want to see!

Just spent two hours trying to find the blue LED's on my 8.2's. They're the passives, so they must have environmentally friendly ones, a bit more subtle. Just gonna take a smoke break then I'll get back on it. I know they're there somewhere......I'll keep you posted :)

Depending on what you're smoking, you'll find 'em soon enough! :D

The rest of you do know he's kidding, right?

...still cant find 'em. Turned all the lights out, took a toke, too much ambient light here in London, so just fused the streetlights, took another toke...ah, that's worked, blue flashing lights coming now.that's cool, it's like they're coming from outside but getting closer....some kind of doppler sound effect now messing with my mixing...blue lights are steady now...hey deepwater, you do good customer service, I didn't get them from you but even so...send a FedEx for them, check them out?.....like now, this minute...make the box big enough for me to get into?

Ah...too late...bye

(You're a co-defendant deepwater)

Woah ... what are you smoking tonight Garry? Oh wait ... I can read. :)

Just had my second cup of tea and my third cookie (I go wild on Thursday nights).

Nik - yes, but they are the original hi-fi passive version, the one Massive originally recommended well before the active "pro monitor" version came out. I use an InterM R150 reference amp, which is kind of better than Alesis or Samson amps but not a Hafler! The 8.2's are a huge improvement over the Alesis M1 I had before. Far clearer, especially in the mids, and less fatiguing. Our guitarist has just come out of six weeks in the studio doing sessions for EMI and declared himself very impressed with the sound in here :) They are showing up my room deficiencies now.

ok garry :-)

don´t know the InterM R150 - i did buy the active 8.2´s this week and want to buy passive monitors from another brand but have only an av receiver from sherwood ( RD-6106R ). It has an TONE DIRECT button but not an good amp. Need it to hear the analog out of the emu 0404 ( only 2 out´s). Will connect the 8.2´s with "tape rec". No other chance.

update:
now i did find an info about InterM.
They did produce for yamaha and other brands but now build there own amps.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how these compare against the Yorkville's.

These are the other monitors I'm considering because I presently have NS10's, and I hate how I can't hear any low end. My mixes always translate a bit boomy & muddy. The Yorkvilles supposedly reach a bit lower.

Does anybody else have any comparison experience with the YSM1 or YSM1P's? Or even how the Wharf's stack up against NS10's.

The Blue Sky Media Desk is another alternative

As soon as my 8.2A's arrive, you will have this opinion, I swear! I'll start a new thread for it.

They reach a LOT lower, actually. The bass is a strong point on the Yorkvilles, considering their size. They're also a fair bit more detailed than the NS10's, and easier on the ears.
The one problem I've had with the Yorkvilles is that the bass seems a little too strong when used very nearfield, but too weak when used in the midfield. Possibly my room causing the problems, but I've had to learn to check against the bass level on other mixes occasionally because I often start by putting not quite enough in. Once I check though, it's smooth sailing :)

Stinger - my opinion of the Media Desk is that they're stinkers! I wanted to like them, because the 2.1 arrangement would suit my desk and room better, but there was so much listening from them it was unbelievable! I was stood with two sales guys who were going, "But the SOS review was so good" and, "I know! But they suck!".

I didn't buy them :)

NS-10's were my primary monitors before I got my 8.2's. They're still in my set-up, but I've been liking them less and less. The problem I always had with the Yamahas was not the low end response (which is lacking), but the mid. Guitars always seemed too loud in the mix with the NS-10's, and I had to train my ears to mix well with them. It doesn't take me nearly as long to get a balanced mix that translates well with the Wharfey's.

The NS-10's were originally marketed as hi-fi speakers, and they somehow caught on with engineers.

genelec?

heard the 8.2A today and was impressed but just want to get the genelec 8030a, after hearing them i was blown away how such a small monitor has such a huge sound.......but the wharfedale's for the price were impressive, i see why so many people have bought them here!

hard to believe a 5" speaker can justify $600 ea?
adam p11 $1,000ea 7"

?) isn't there an average size" recommended, based off room size?
kinda like TV viewing distances,
example; 10ft minimum distance for a 48" etc...12ft for 60" screen...
analogy: 10x10 bedroom= 5" ...14x14= 7", Abbey Road= Urei 813

i read some thread "if you get those type X speakers you better
have a large room!"'

confusing,
so for a small 10x10 bedroom drywall bedroom Homestudio,
maybe large 8" KRKV8's would be too much?
Maybe the right "nearfield mixing" monitors are 5" or 6" for
a 10x10?
