Wharfedale 8.2a's may fall through... Another suggestion please???

Well, I've still not received my Warfedale 8.2a's that I ordered over a month ago. Going in I was aware that there may be some delay in receiving them, and I'm still hoping that everything will work out with that deal. In the mean time I feel that I should be smart and get a "plan B" together....

My price point was 300, as I was getting the warfe's for 305 shipped. Should I just recoupe the money and buy them through a store, or do you all feel that now there are other options out there that would be better for the same price?

I could maybe push the limit to 400......and that would be pushing it. :o

the York YSM1P actives...$418 pair.

or

BX5 ($150 on ebay) and a sub... ~$300 ish.

Wharf actives are like my tascam 2488 was,... gamble due to QC issues.
if your lucky, you'll be happy....but i didn't have to woryy about shipping, and i test drove the hell out of it for 30days!

if you get fhkd like others on the forum...your out $$$ and time at the least.

i haven't read any negatives on Yorks..

next to the BX5s and the Yorkies the Whafedale 8.2a's stand out a mile as the better monitor.

As for the QC issues, some are known to have a failing blue power LED. One of mine have this problem but they sound so good I don't want to part with them to have it repaired. I just put a small piece of black electrical tape over the good one and both monitors are identical again. :)

Fixing that LED can't be too complicated. Have you taken a look to see what the problem might be?

Well it hasn't fallen through completely, but I'm begining to wonder a bit now that it's been over a month since payment was received. There's not been any contact in about 3 weeks, in which it was stated that they were accidently shipped to his office instead of being drop shipped to my door, but he stated that they were now "On their way".

I'm still hoping that he will come through, but as time drags on, it's just that much more time that I can't record. :(

I'm just getting a bit antsy I guess. The monitors were that last piece of gear I needed to complete my "Studio"........and I still don't have them.

what else can you do?

hope you get a great set of Wharfs.
In that price range, $339 free shipping Zsounds...Wharfs.

The Yorks are another $52. as you know many,many great reviews also.

i didn't have either here to listen to.
i went thru the monitor hunt in Feb.
back and forth..here and there... Wharfs, Yorks. and all the others.

You know, one of my LEDs failed. I tried turning it off, back on, unplugging, plugging back in... everything for 2 weeks! Well, I unplugged them when I went on vacation for 1 week, then fired them back up when I got back home. Guess what. The LED came back to life and has been strong ever since. I dont know how the hell that happened, but it did.

BTW, I am very happy with the wharfs. The stereo imaging and the natural sound of vocals on it are to die for! :D
 
Also you can find Wharfdales at www.8thstreet.com. They have awesome fast shipping and a great return policy. I ordered mine on a Tuesday night and had them on Friday. They are located in the Northeast.

I really like my Wharfdales. They have good a good balanced sound that translates really well. They are a very easy monitor to mix on because you don't have to second guess a thing.

yeah, bought a SM7 off 8th..all went fast and excellent.
 
Wharfs and Yorks..

if you get out of the order due to delays,
i'd go with the Yorks..

per Bleyrads side by side comparison of the Wharf/York.
its good reading. imo.

either is in the "good cheap stuff" stamp of approval..
its like choosing your favorite Beatle album or some sht.

QC is another story..when tweeters crackle and amps burn out ...
LEDS is bad, but not sonically bad...its still poor QC.

where did you read the side by side comparisons? i'd like to check em out if you can remember.
 
bleyrads. it was a great read. he is one of the few who had both.

unlike myself, i'm just a gearslut especially for monitors. mics and sht is ok, i like the whole physics thing on sound and speakers.
i posted what i'd testdrove...

you were there The infamous Wharfedale thread..or one of the many.
i din't know how to do the link... its called Wharfedale Diamond Pro Monitors around #464 or so.
 
there comes a time...

i got quoted from deep some time ago, it wasn't much cheaper and he was overly busy then doing the wharf mania. i opted out. then i ordered some BW from ebay! which was just not right, or intelligent..i got lucky, thats all.
if they'd been puked on, i'd been screwed.

what'd you save on the Wharfs? a month is long, your a patient dude.
 
I'm in the same boat, only I haven't actually ordered them yet. I emailed deepwater well over a month ago (maybe approaching 2 months now).... and no word yet. Unfortunately in the time of waiting I'm going to be getting a new power supply for my PC, which is going to cut into my Wharfedale fund, so I guess I'll have to wait a little while longer to make it up.

I too read the Wharfedale Yorkville comparison and according to that post the Yorkvilles clearly won the comparison. Has anyone else tried both of these monitors for a comparison? If the general conclusion is that the Yorkies are better, then I may hold out a bit longer for them. :cool:

I'm the one who did the comparison.

I've had the Yorkies for a few years and the Wharfedales for about 7 months.
The Yorks are definitely a head and shoulders above in terms of accuracy and detail and extension. Not surprising given the component and build quality is so much better.
But, depending on what you're used to and how you hear, it's possible the Wharfedales may translate better.

My recommendation lately has been to get the Wharfedales if you have a small, untreated mixing room (average room in a house) and are used to the tonality of car speakers and the like.
Get the Yorkies if you have a treated mixing room (they have more high-end, which can become a problem with totally bare walls) and can get used to the fact that they're giving you more detail and extension that the average consumer speaker set.
