This is my response to the Track Rat Xmas album idea. I dug this out of the dusty archives last night and did my best to clean it up, but let me say that I didn't have much to work with. I recorded it on a Tascam Port07 back in 1995, and I was hoping to find the original 4 track tape, which would have been nice to be able to go in and isolate each track to clean up, but unfortunately all I could get my hands on was a mix down. I was aghast at the mix down, there was around 30 seconds in the middle of the song that sounded like I flipped off the dolby or something, it was weird. I ended up having to edit that part out, which turned out to be an adventure in itself. I had a little fun with Wave's Enigma here. Also, I picked up the Alesis Airsynth last week and couldn't resist adding a little to this old tune to try and revive it back into life.

Anyway, it's a humble offering, but as the song goes I have no gift to give that's fit to give king, I'll play my beat for you on my drum (machine!).

The song is Little Beat Boy 2002

Anyway, best holiday wishes to all of my good homereccin' pals!

HA! Rats you maniac! You get extra points for originality.:D Now you have me thinking about metel versions of standards. I love it.

a Christmas with the Borg.... pretty alien stuff there dude....

and.....I'm not touching your yule log!

The two main things I got oy of this is that 1)even though they still suck, my recoding skillz have come a long way over the last seven years, and 2)my brain has not been quite right for a long time now.

Freakin' wild! I like it! It will be a bit startling on the Christmas cd. All nice mellow Christmas songs and then..........enter the Borg!

There are definitely people out there that can do sonic wonders with a Porta07.....

you arent one of them.....

but then i cant even do better with a $150 sound card.......

anyways, i really enjoyed this....i like to think outside of the traditional box and this would definitely fit the description......really good stuff......

The spirit of Christmas future?

Chestnuts roasted by nuclear fallout?

Rudolf the red nosed deerborg?

Frosty the snowbot?

Tech the halls?

This is really good, rats. Production-wise, everything fits like a glove. I wouldn't say nay if someone told me this was NIN.

We need more of this here in the clinic. Keep it coming, Rats.

defying convention by being yourself. A high compliment.

I love the CB-radio-like feedback... done as an accent to the vox. You and B.SABBATH sound like you're cut from the same cloth... but one of you is pants, and the other is overalls

Way to interpret another's work. Thumbs way up!!

now THAT'S a cover

I give you 500 points for directional "fuck-it-ness." Don't lose that ever. I'm not gonna' lie...this won't be on my personal Christmas CD, but that has more to do with the fact that my in-laws would probably attempt to obtain custody of my children as soon as it came up in the rotation.

Bot On!

I like this thread because of the way it makes me feel.

Thanks for the kind words. This feedback is a nice suprise -I've had this song lying around for seven years. I almost didin't post it but I guess I'm glad I did:D

Looking forward to hear some of the other clinicians post some holiday cheer.

Lt- it will only be startling if that's the only more aggressive Xmas tune! Still have yer to hear in from acidrock, sabbath, cranky one...

gidge- you crack me up. :)

Teriel- thanks lady.

acid- how bout jingle hells?

meshy-

Man, I think you may be going out on a limb there but that's very nice of you to say nevertheless. I'm glad you like, I highly respect your opinion!

partyanticipate- Thanks. I think being yourself is the best way to be. I like to try and keep things fresh if possible. I've always struggled with originality, because for the most part, our actions are mainly reactions of learned concepts. I think with rock music, at least to some degree, we are all regurgitating the past melodies and riffs, beats, and sentiments. Possibly here I have disguised my plagurism better! Honestly though, it's a tough hurdle to come up with a new sound so I really appreciate that you found it unique!
But about the sabbath thing- you know I take it as a big compliment because I really admire sabbath's work...however I think there are large differences in our styles. This particular song is a bit more aggressive than the stuff I'm currently involved in, so I can maybe see how you might find a comparison here on this one. I think you will find sabbath's stuff a bit more technical, and his recordings of a higher level. I think Sabbath and I may find a common denominator in the value of originality in that I can't think of another artist out there currently that sounds a bit like him or my own stuff. Sure there are elements of these songs that may be remeniscent of something or another, but in most cases you won't find much beyond that.

In best robot voice: ChrisS-you said fuck-it-ness. Ha Ha - rats likes that. Can I use that in the future?

great interpretation.. has a bit of a Manson feel to me..

which parts were the air synth? cool sounds.. I saw it used by Vernon Reid (Living Colour)

I dug it, but too bad the fidelity isn't better.. maybe you could redo it..
