I just a new Audiotrak Maya44 MkII card last week. It seems in every respect to be a fine card and has gotten good reviews. But mine might be faulty. I have spent several days corresponding with the support at ESI (who seem to own Audiotrak). But they cant solve it (surprise), and just asked me to go and try the card in the store I bought it (but since I bought it by mailservice Its to far away). Basically they wont believe its something wrong with the card, but with me or my computer.
One of you experts might save me some time and money by knowing how to solve it if the problem lies with my computer...
The problem is this: The card plays back files in 44.100 samples too fast. As if I had set the card manually to 48.000. This makes it, of course, impossible to work with. I have done all I can think of. My comp IS below the card recommended system reqirements, but I tried it in a friends comp and his is far above and the problem remained...

What is this? Please help!

silly question here...DO you have the card set to 48k ?

xoxo

what multitrack software are you using ?
it sounds to me like you dont have the sampling rate set to 44.1k in your
multitrack software(set to 48K ?). or maybe if the maya has a control applet like most do , check there as the above poster said.
also the only other weird thing i can think of is if you were using a previous sound card in your machine set to 48k. some sb's ive been told
use this default rate. maybe if you didnt completely deinstall the previous
sound card files ? thus confusing windows ? but this would be really weird.
i would be really curious about the recording quality you get with the maya as a lot of friends of mine have asked about it. but its so new.

He he, ehm... NO... I have not set it to 48.000. It even has a automode that sets it to whitchever samplerate is playing and it sets itself nicely to 44.1 if thats what it is but... And then if you switch to 48.000 theres no difference.
I had a SB in it before but I have removed it and uninstalled what I can find but I can keep looking to see if there are remnants in the configuration somewhere or something.
I use Acid, soundforge, Nuendo and such and they are set correctly....

PH - has me stumped this problem. the only other thing i can think is windows is overriding somehow and looking at a old config file somewhere
and setting to 44.1k. please could you do a test for me.
download the old cool edit 96 editor off the net. in its preferences set to 44.1k - record something , and see if it plays back at 44.1k.
i'm curious if this works. just trying to help.

Heee, well, I can tell you directly that it probably will work because I forgot to mention the bizarre fact that if I record something with the card, it plays back normally! It is old files, files of sample-cds, audio cds, mp3s and so on that are played back wrong. This is insane...
The store has now asked me to send them the card to test... Im getting tired...

Thanks for trying to help!

KACHING !! - i bet those old files of yours were recorded with your old SB card - am i correct ? in that case they were probably recorded at 48K?
hence the problem. you have a setting in your audio software set to 44.1
but your loading up 48k files .

Nice 1 Manning. Was just about to post the same answer. ;)

No... no. I have always recorded in 44.100 before. And as I said, all outside files is also played back wrong, even from an album put in the CD-player. And the card automatically sets itself to 44.100 playback when it supposed to, but thats not what you hear..

i love weird probs like this. .......
so what your saying is in a multitrack session using the maya - when you record tracks using 44.1 in getting a new song down all is ok ? right ?
but playing back say a commercial music cd you bought in the store its all screwy ? if thats the case then its got to be a windows OS setting.
overriding the sound card. could be a left over registry setting maybe in windows. one thing - make sure in the windows sound dialog
there is a dialog which has on one pane recording and playback.
make sure this says MAYA. also have you tried in win disabling playing systems sounds ? you know those little win sounds that go burp when you click on something in say a word processing application.
generally on new tracks what do you think of the sound quality of the maya ?

Yes, I have done and tried all these things. And the thing is that it did it on a friends comp too so...
Now I have sent it back to the dealer and they will check whats what...
When it does behave (working in 48.000 and over) it is a fine card. 24/96, low latency, headphone amp, 12v phantom power if needed, low noise, high dynamic and so on. And the fact that it has 4 ins is pretty nice...

The card was defective! They are sending me a new one! Tanks anyway for all the input...

well hope you get the new one working fine.
please keep us posted as to sound quality etc. i have a few friends interested in the maya but were holding off because it was so new to the market.

hey

i'd like to get some feedback bout this card, too.. gonna buy it.. : )
