Re: Mix 2 up

WATYF You really make me not want to do drums anymore, but that's just a poor self esteem thing on my part. Thanks for staying on me...just remember I'm a guitar player, not a doctor. :D
Aw dude... don't even take that stuff the wrong way... Your drum programming really does fit your stuff well... and it's a hell of a lot more complex than I would've ever thought up... I'm mostly just bustin' yer balls... :p (especially aboot the china boy thing.. :D)

Anywhoo... on a side note... I'm with Sam... I liked mix 2 better... sorry. :( This one doesn't have the "oomph" that 2 did... (yeah.. that's my technical term for it... who needs to pinpoint frequencies when you can use concise sonic descriptions like "oomph"? :p )

Cymbals sound weird, since there seems to be distortion in them. Or maybe it's just the media player... The song is very good. Kinda desperate and eerie at the same time. Your singing is great also, you can really show some emotions here. The solo guitar tone is good. I don't know how you do it, but it sound like it's coming from the back of my head... weird.. You're using some way weird 3d-stuff here, or maybe I'm just imagining things :D

I can't find mix problems, other than it sounds a bit too compressed at places.

i think i'm listening to the older mix but wanted to comment anyway.

this sounds definitely less 'weird' in the backing vocal category. very nice job there in my opinion. the lead vocal is also very well done.

as always, your acoustic sounds outstanding. i'm noticing a signature rythm in your music. it's that 1and2and with the accent on the second 'and' making it sound like a triplet when actually it's an eighth. cool stuff.

you definitely have your own sound between the tasty guitar playing and your unique (it's late and i'm not sure i spelt that write) vocal style. i mean unique in a good way. always look forward to your stuff.

Thanks guys

Hmmmm... I'll have to give it a listen.

I'm realizing there's two things I should not do after working outside all day in Maine- sing and mix. Both my voice and ears go to hell. One from the cold and the other from the saws AND the cold. I'll figure something out I guess.

I actually CUT a lot of mids, so I'm a little fucked up now. I'll check it out in the truck today.

Sam when did you download it? I posted the latest version at about 6:30 last night.

Sorry if I'm being a pain in the ass. I'm trying new drum sounds so I have to do everything a bit differently.

Chad and Crankyone, I'll be looking into your comments as well...thanks so much! RE: That lead coming from the back of your head. Ya it has that effect on me too! It's just a stereo track...double miked amp. Nothing really magic or anything.

I liked the vocal treatment, how did you reverb it?

Muzeman- Just a tiny bit on the lead and a tiny bit more on the harmonies. Subtlety, I'm finding is better for reverb in such a big mix!

WATYF, thanks bro...I'll be looking to recapture that oomph!

Peace guys!

oh hi Erich...and good morning. I just missed ya...thanks a lot for listening. You've walked into the middle of yet another of my mixing struggles :D I gotta start just doing 3 track tunes before I go mad

Well off to work...good night Erich!

man, i know i sound like a broken record:rolleyes: but i just can't help on a mix as good as this!! so i will just stick with...............
you are one talented SOB!! "the road to baxter park" was another winner!!!

thank's for sharing these tune's, man!!!!!

peace

Well hell........I have no idea which mix I heard. But whichever it was; I liked it. Nice guitar playing and I like the tone on both the 'lectric and the acoustic. I didn't have any problem with the drums.....they're SLuiCe drums.....how else could you play them?
Vocals are cleaner and more natural than you've been using. You must be getting comfortable with your singing. At the beginning...the vox seemed a little buried but it quickly came up to where I could hear it.
I've told you before but.....you and Sam have the most recognizable styles of anyone I know. Wish I could accomplish that.

Hey fellas...thanks. I'll actually have yet another remix up in about 20 minutes.

me? obsessive?

maybe a little.

:D .........Im 48% into this one man.........:D ........:D

...............I'll check back a little later...................

Hey Mike...if you mean 48% downloaded...hold on....I'll edit this post when it's up. Thanks a lot bro! I look forward to your drunk review! :D

Hey record me a drunk christmas song!

EDIT: Alright Mix 4 is up. This is a much more detailed mix methinks...but I'm also getting really used to the song, so I'm biased.

Steve you should be able to make out all the vocals now if you'd like to listen again. :)

I like it. It's got a Dave Matthews meets Straind feel to it. Nice production. I'm jealous! :)

Hey man,
Re: Mix 4 ......Yeah, I like this mix alot. Not only is the bass now clear and full sounding, but the lyrics and vocs now sound more legible.
The vocs seem to sit more in front, .....sounds comfortable to me.
That acoustic lead kicks my ass man..... smokin!!

....I am not Drunk!!! ......just painfully hung-over:(

.......have a great Christmas man

I'd say "better"... maybe even "that's a keeper". :p

There was one teensy tiny little thing though... The acoustic lead used to be a lot more "in your face" and now it's a bit buried. If that was your intention, then disregard this.. but I just thought I'd point it oat.. 'cause I dug that acoustic lead, and now it's just a tad overwhelmed by the other parts. (just ever so slightly.. :p )

this mix sounds better than the one before it..

maybe I will just leave it at that, ay? :)

When I said in that other mix I had nothing to complain about, that should have been a sign..

step away from the mixer before you hurt someone.. :)

great tunes! Merry Christmas Tom!

Hey Mr. Sluice - The recording is excellent. You know, I usually listen to mixes on this BBS on speakers or (now) monitors, b/c I feel like my family and close neighbors should also enjoy the experience. Plus, listening on headphones makes EVERYthing sound like it has plenty of bass. So anyway, I'm rattling the windows with this tune, and my wife walks in and says, "I want a divorce." No wait...that's not it. She said, "Is that the 'sluice' guy?"

Why am I telling you this? Well, you have to understand that my wife confuses Elvis and Metallica (i.e., NOT a huge music fan), and she picked you out in under 1 minute. I'd say that's pretty cool.

So...are you praising your parents? Or chastising them? Or is this about squirrels? :D

Merry Santa-Day Sluice

haha..I wrote it when I was twenty. I think it was about me waking up to the "real" world more than anything. Both praise and rebellion I imagine were the subjects of this one.

No...come on and be honest....it was a divorce threat

I could pick you out of a million singers

Top notch SLuiCe! Some people learn to write great tunes...you were born to do it brutha. Have a great Christmas!

hola

what a cracker. I love the guitar and your voice is really great.

This song gets better as it goes along, awsome vocals!

Awsome lead at 140, almost spanish sounding.

I am not a fan of the bass too much but I am digging the song. wow
